PK holds out to sign for under 3 mill/yr for two years and remain an RFA when the deal is up? WTF was he thinking?

Look at the details... That is the Cap hit and AAV... the second year is $3.75 IIRC.
That springboards him to over $4M the first yea of the next contract... and I imagine higher... and a much higher AAV over the span of his next one, which should be a whopper as it takes him past his RFA status and probably has them buying some UFA years at a premium.
At first that deal seems real bad for him but is more fair than bad and sets him up for later.... and IMO it is a good deal for the Habs as they look to possibly sign him long-term down the road.
Kaberle supposedly sucks nowadays and is MAYBE a 4th defender, at best.
i havent seen him this year so im honestly not sure. he wasnt the player he used to be last year but he looked like a servicable pmd to me. mildly overpaid for a guy who put the points up he has in the past but hes only got two years @ 4 mil. thats 2nd pairing money. this year no carle and next year no kimo im thinkin he might be worth a shot if hes got any legs at all

Kaberle had a very slow start last season but was a near half point per game defenceman by the end of the year with the Canadiens. His work defensively was... very much to be desired but Randy Cunnyworth kept putting him with Chris Campoli who wasn't going to defend squat.
Kaberle is having another slow start and Raphael Diaz took advantage of it, clicking quick with Markov. That pushes Kaberle to #7 with Subban returning. If Philly doesn't have someone to use both buyouts, might be smart to trade for Kaberle and then if he doesn't work out? Just buy him out.

I thought the same thing till Dreger et al explained how it was a much better deal than the initial offer. This season's salary is a lot lower than next year's and it's pro-rated so he'll get the bulk of the money next year. Plus the higher amount next year will give him more leverage going forward. You have to remember a 2 year deal is really just the balance of this year and all of next year so he could earn his way into a better contract next year.
