I always had a thing for him when he played in Florida.. and I know he had a rough go last season in Chicago. The kid doesn't seem to have heart for the game (he did put up respectable AHL numbers.. not saying much for a 7th ov pick).

I'm curious.. does he have a future on the big club? Next year, the year after.. on another team? He has 2 years left on his contract.. and I'm curious if he'll see NHL ice, or if he's stuck riding that greyhound around from arena to arena?!

It's a long shot amidst the young forwards the organization probably wants to give a shot towards their highest potentials.

I'm not even sure if there is another team that would take him for peanuts and Bowman might think it's a good move to use him to try and help the Ice Hogs become winners.

I honestly didn't think he had a fair shake but I wasn't watching him in practice so I don't really know. But he started off as a healthy scratch like all the time and only got in a few games as a 4th liner. I was hoping he could maybe contribute decent defense as well as put up 30 points but he didn't get an opportunity. Seeing as that we weren't at the cap and his cap hit really didn't matter, I don't think he'll ever get another shot. It isn't like he lit up Rockford either though. The games I watched he was quite noticeable and one of the best players but if a 25 year old isn't dominating the AHL then he likely isn't going to be a top 6 forward in the NHL. Maybe he can turn it around but it likely won't be on the Hawks. He won't get bought out either unless this CBA has some kind of no cap hit penalty clause. So he'll be stuck out of the NHL for 2 more years but maybe he'll get a chance after that.

I remember he had a very good camp and actually looked pretty good playing in the top 6 (with Toews iirc). As soon as the season started he was on the 4th line and in Rockford. He's not a bad player but he's not a part of the future in Chicago.

Hawks could have used him later in the year with all the injury problems.

Ya, but it certainly wasn't worth the small risk that someone would claim him on re-entry!

Yeah, he won't get another chance here unless there is language in the new CBA that allows these outcasts to return.

Giving him a spot over one of our prospects would be a mistake. We didn't get him to use him. We got him as a cap dump that we can throw in the AHL

He's an NHL talent, he just makes dollars far over his worth.

Would've been up last year if it weren't for the chance that he'd get picked up on waivers. IMO, he was too good to be in Rockford. He'll be given a fair shot in training camp, whenever that happens to be

We should not have sent him down in hindsight, I thought we'd make a big trade with the cap space.

If we have no intention of playing him, wouldn't it be the wise move to see if someone would claim him on waivers so they don't have to pay his salary... And some other team can inherit paying it? Doesn't make sense to me.

I believe the Hawks would still have to pay half of his salary if he got claimed by another team.

Hopefully hes finds a team in Europe during the lockout and stays there until his contact is done with the Hawks.

WHY?

he was a waste of roster spot. Shaw was better and more usefull than him

he played great in camp, and then never got a shot in the reg season. Would have taken him over Brunette 10x

He was. Just never given a fair chance. And with Q running the circus he would have ended up on all four lines in one night.

it's a shame, the guy looked fantastic playing with Toews and Stalberg in the preseason. I remember he set up Stalberg with like 5 perfect tape to tape passes that Stalberg couldn't finish on. Finally Rusty had the puck and was just like "**** it" and roofed it on the goalie

I think great is stretching ones creative licensing but he certainly could have been a slightly more talented Kopecky minus his net presence.

Rusty got his chances... he played in the NHL and did nothing. Saying he got no fair chance is like BWC saying Frolik never got his chance in the Top6... they just suck at those roles
