It's interesting to see Nichushkin so high on the ISS charts.
Where do you think he ends up in the end considering the Russian factor and all?
Washington could take him and be like the old Wings teams. Use Ovi and Nichushkin to try and lure Kuznetsov over too. the Russian lines of old

IMO Drouin becomes the best player from the draft, if we did have first overall i'd be torn who to pick though since Jones is still going to turn out to be a stud as well.
I asked this question on a Winterhawks forum yesterday, because I keep seeing people say he plays on the left. I think they may be thinking of the WJC, but I only saw a little bit of it, so I can't confirm he played on the left there either.

Here's the response I got in terms of what side Jones plays in Portland. It's the only one so far.

Right side.

Pretty much all the times I have seeen him on home ice!

Well that goes to show how little I get to watch juniors.

He did play left in the WJC, that much I remember.

Yeah I remember he played left side on the PP too during the WJC probably for his vision and one timer, seems like a smart coach.

We should keep a standings update on the first page in reverse order. I think if season ended today and no lottery winner outside of first, we'd draft 4th overall.

Yea that's what I've been wondering too. I've seen clips of him playing on the left side on the PP for one timers in the WJC, but did he play on the left 5 on 5?

I honestly forgot which side he played during the WJC.

The Winterhawks games I watched he has been playing rightside, but I really didn't notice which side he plays on during PP. I have 3 Hawk games DVRed and I will come back with a report when I watch all three.

Currently 5th overall.

TB, CBJ, FLA all still playing today. Could be down to 4th by the end of the day.

Buffalo and Washington play each other tomorrow.

No matter who wins, one of those teams will be advancing past us in the standings.

3rd overall pick by the end of tomorrow.

Well at least we are moving in the right direction one way or another. Top 5 pick and it could impact our roster as soon as next year.

Edit.. Is it bad that I am now wishing for that to be a 3 point game? Considering it would move us to 2nd over all?

I do trust the Avs drafting skills which has been very good these past few years. But I'm still scared we will screw this up. There are so many "half-busts" who have gone between 5-10th. Like Brett Connolly, Nino Niederreiter, Scott Glennie.

If we do draft first overall, should we take Jones? How many 1st overall defenseman have actually lived up to the expectations? I guess we shouldn't care about earlier busts and just take the one we think are the best.

Would Jones be NHL-ready straight away?m

Jones, MacKinnon and Barkov are expected to make it I guess.

Drouin is a tossup. He is like RNH. He has nothing to prove left anymore in the juniors. But he could use some more time to improve his body strength.

I would be fine with them letting him in juniors but I do not believe that many teams would do that. So probably count him too although I believe it could be a mistake.

After that you have Zadorov and maybe Nurse? who could step in and play a bottom pairing role. Nichushkin certainly could step in but he is under contract in Russia and won't come over next season.

Lindholm is a few seasons away. I am not sure about Monahan. Think he could use an extra season or two in junior. But his team is so horrible, that he might as well make the Avs and feel right at home.

There may be more guys who are ready but given our current state, we should come out of the draft with one of the above.

And I will personally declare Sacco being the anti-christ if we go on a stupid and pointless winning streak now. (Could see that happening against Dallas unfortunately)

Tbh, I have no idea which north american players are the best. All I have seen is what I saw in the WJC.

I do keep pretty good track of all the swedes though.

I just took a look at the 2011 draft, man, imagine if Wild who picked ahead of us didn't take Jonas Brodin and we did? What an ultimate superswedish draft that would have been. And if he can play with Suter 25 minutes per night, he can certainly play with EJ.

Too early on Connolly or Nino imo.. Connolly has been pretty good this year, though in minors. Same with Nino, I think.

Glennie.. well it's not looking good for him.

We wouldn't have taken Jonas Brodin. We'd taken someone from the CHL.

Pretty sure we would have taken Brodin, I know that's who I wanted in that spot. If you look at the draft video, Pracey and the boys look a bit dejected after the wild's pick and then it seems like they went for the next guy on their list.

Love how you know this insider information?

Because I am pretty sure we would've drafted him if he was at 11th.

Avs have just have had a knack of drafting lots of people from the CHL, even if they were lower on most other lists.

How come any half-sarcastic things I say are taken too seriously every time.
Maybe I should stop?

Now you're just being silly.

Sacco wouldn't have let Brodin play once he started getting comfortable.

I seem to remember Sherman looking dejected, and Pracey trying to pick him up by saying something. Probably about the player they were picking.

My impression was always that he was waiting until the last second for the phone to ring, and was bummed LA and Van never took them up on trading us their goaltenders for the 11th, and now he was going to have to go into the off season trying to find Anderson's replacement.
