Getting the Marlies Ready for the Lockout

So - with the impending lockout starting tonight and the expiration of the old CBA tomorrow, all of the teams will be assigning their young players to the AHL today. Apparently the Isles just assigned 19 guys.

Who can they send? If I'm not mistaken, they will definately send Gardiner, Kadri, Frattin, Colborne, and Ashton. Apparently there is a loop-hole in the timing of the Scrivens contract that they can assign him today without passing through waivers, but would have to immediately recall him if the lockout were to end.

Considering all of the talent that is going to be starting in the AHL this year - it's going to make for some pretty exciting hockey!

What do you think the lines will be for us? Which other farm team do you think will get the biggest boost? If Philly adds Couturier and Schenn, they're going to be a pretty good team as well.

Here are some that will likely be sent down.... Leafs prospects not on the list.

NHL teams place players on waivers

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2012/...st_of_players/

Quote:
The NHL and NHLPA agreed earlier in the week to implement a special window that would allow players on two-way, non entry-level contracts to be sent to the AHL without being subjected to re-entry waivers.

Teams have until midnight Saturday to assign players to their minor-league affiliates. They will then have up to three days before the season begins to recall the player without having to put him on re-entry waivers.

My projected Marlies line-up with a lock-out and no injuries.

D'amigo-Kadri-Frattin
Deschamps-Colborne-Hamilton
Ashton-Zigomanis-Scott
Ross-Acton-Mckegg

Gardiner-Holzer
Fraser-Blacker
Ranger-Gysbers
Yeo

Scrivens
Owuya

The marlies will be stacked if there's a lockout.

Hopefully there will be more than 10 people there on weeknights with the lockout. This team is fun to watch. Admission is cheap aswell. No reason to pass this up.

I realize that the top guns won't be there all season (Gardiner, Kadri, Frattin, etc) but I expect this team to be back in the mix for a championship again.

How many people attended their games during the 04-05 lock-out to use as an example?

Although one difference is this time the Marlies are coming off playing in the Calder Cup Finals, so hopefully that fact alone gets more people to their games.

Is there any chance of Reilly getting on the Marlies squad?

Nah, he's too young to play in the AHL.

Theres not really an excuse for MLSE not airing every Marlies home game during the lockout. I'll watch most of them if they're on.

I believe I read somewhere that Sportsnet Ontario would be carrying some Marlies games in the event of a lockout.

This is assuming a lockout that lasts long enought to actually do much damage to the season.

Mike Zigomanis, Ryan Hamilton and Greg Scott where Marlies 3 leading scorers last season (excluding the departed Mueller). That means they got plenty of playing time. All 3 have been resigned are will be back this year.

I don't think Reilly is eligable to play in the AHL despite signing his entry level contract. Plus I have a feeling the Leafs will assign him back to the WHL, which is what the Blue Jackets did for Ryan Murray sending him to the WHL and sending Boone Jenner to the OHL.

They were still in St. John's 04-05.

Only because they played the most games. We have fans of other teams here who can skew facts to make Leaf prospects look bad so they don't need any help.

My mistake and now that you mention it I remember St. John's playing a regular season game in 04-05 at the Air Canada Centre.
