Very happy with this deal, right around what we all expected.

Good, Burrows just belongs here in my opinion. I feel like only a Canuck fan can really truly appreciate him or something. Very happy with the signing and the terms.

This is probably the 2nd happiest I've ever been for a player getting a big pay day right ahead of Salo, and behind Ohlund. Well deserved for everything he's done.

Evidently they were going to speak with Edler and his agent this afternoon. Hope the focus is there now that Doan is off the table.

I dunno, I love Burrows but not sure about this deal. No problem with it the first year or two, but I expect burrows game to decline somewhat rapidly and I feel he's already played his best hockey. I will be surprised (pleasantly) if he's worth his cap hit the last couple of seasons, especially if the cap goes down and/or he's no longer a mainstay with the sedins.

With that said, if there's one guy in the league that's worth being overpaid for a coup,e years, its burrows so its not the end of the world. I'm happy Alex got paid, just not crazy about the length. Time will tell I guess.

Burrows! Yes, very happy he will be a Canuck for the foreseeable future. Bigger money than I expected. Longer term than I thought. But well worth it IMO. This guy bleeds Canuck colours!

Keep in mind Paul Gaustad a career 4th line center with under 15 goals as his career high just got 3.25 x 3.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this signing, its an underpayment with the state of the league.

Even if/when Burrows regresses, his hockey sense, competitiveness and ability to play both ends will always allow him a spot on the team.

Actually I "borrowed" it from Richard Nixon's VP, Spiro Agnew.

He referred to the media as "nattering nabobs of negativism."

Shortly before he had to leave office in a bribery/extortion/tax fraud scandal.

This was well before Starbucks, so we have no record of his coffee preferences.

I'm thrilled it has a NTC.

NTCs are now par for the course.

6 or 8 years ago, only 'superstar' talents were getting them. Now *every* average to above-average player in their UFA period gets one. Anyone thinking Burrows wouldn't get an NTC was living in a fairy land. It was automatic.

As for the contract, it's one we had to sign, and it's reasonable term at less than he would have received on the open market. He will probably be well overpaid in the last two years, however - track record is that non-superstar forwards rarely perform at a high level past age 32-33.

Generally, though, happy for a class act to receive a nice payday and happy he'll be with the franchise for many more years.

Grabovski gets 5.5 per year

Hemsky gets 5 per year

Carle gets 5.5 per year

I'm pretty sure Burrows is a better all around player and much more clutch than those guys

Dreaming

I'm hoping for 5.5 per or under. Top Dmen are a hot commodity though

That's not my point. People around here continue to ignore what Gillis is doing when talking about what these guys are going to sign for, including your assessment of Edler's contract. I'm actually a little surprised he went above 4m but better 4.5m than 5yrs or more.

Marchand deal exactly (4y 18m)- which is about what I thought he'd get. Both sides can be happy with that.

Congratulations to Alex, you deserve it 110%!!! Fair deal for both parties.

On getting old - if you look at his build, he's a wiry guy who actually relies more on stamina than speed. Therefore, his footspeed decline will not only be less, it will also be less impactful. Same thing for skill vs hockey IQ - while he is skilled, his hockey toolbox is elite and makes him the player he is. that only gets better with age.

Also, injuries can slow a player down over time - some players are injury prone, others like Alex are not - he has had the knack (so far - knack on wood) to get his nose dirty without getting hurt.

So I would expect the decline in his level of play to be a non-issue. If anything, like the Sedins, he could benefit from having beefier, meaner teammates.

The bigger question mark is can he put up points without the Sedins and the answer is yes if he's playing with talented players - we saw that at the World Championships - he can be the glue and the finish but he's not the playmaker or power forward that can carry a line. And of course he brings stellar two way play and a stealthy forecheck to any line he plays on.

There is nothing wrong with this deal. I was actually hoping it would be for longer. Gillis and company did a great job—Burr easily could have got quite a bit more on the open market. It might not be as much of a discount as his last deal, but he deserves every penny, and more.

This was right in line with what I predicted. It's about the max I would have wanted to pay. I'm happy with this re-signing.
