Winterhawks won 6-0 tonight... and the Great Pouliot was pointless and a +1.

He's slowed down and hope he's just focusing on improving his D since his offensive production isn't as much as some were expecting given that he was drafted 8th overall and all...

Has anybody been watching the Portland Winterhwks this season and could shed some like on Derrick's development thus far.

Surprisingly, he's barely older than Seth Jones though its already his 3rd season in the WHL vs Seth's first season...

Seems like Marcantuoni left Sunday's game after "getting his bell rung" aka concussion. Apparently he took a big hit, came back for a few more shifts than left the game for good. Won't be surprised to see him miss time with an "upper-body" injury.

Yes hockey, you're the only sport that cannot under any circumstance allow information on injuries.

Scott Wilson also broke though and scored a goal in yesterday's game. Hopefully it gets him on a roll. Was pretty damn stunned last year when he came out nowhere and averaged a ppg in HE as a freshman.

So that's two likely concussed prospects by the end of October? Some things never change, eh?

Yep, I'm expecting Harrington or Pouliot to go knee-one-knee with Zlobin in the CHL/Russia series and take out both parties for significant time.

Hanowski will not play this weekend. Don't know anything else beyond that.

Harrison Ruopp is producing a decent amount of points this season, he already has six points in sixteen games and he's also a plus-9 (last season he only had nine points in sixty-two games), the Prince Albert Raiders are off to a great start compared to last season.

It wasn't bad per se, but it was late, well behind the play and either Hayes hit his head or his head hit the glass...couldn't really tell. But it is his first concussion so hopefully it goes well but you just never know.
We have a guy now who had to redshirt last year after suffering a concussion in the playoffs in 2011 then was in a car accident and got another that summer just before he came to St. Cloud, he missed the whole year, couldn't even practice till the week before the season started this year.

I should have specified, I was more curious as to how he responded from the hit. Was he able to skate to the bench, or did he stay down, etc. I suppose that isn't very telling anyway, but who knows.

He came out for the 3rd period and played the next couple games before getting hit in the head again.

He was down for a bit, but made it to the bench ok, a little help from the trainer but nothing that looked unusual. He was on the bench for a bit, looked like he was stretching and then went back to the lockerroom at some point which I missed. He said he felt sick after and went to the hospital. He was at the arena running with the team for a bit the next night but didn't play obviously and is being held out this weekend. Hopefully he can return for UND next week. That's the "plan" anyway.

Camp standout Jayson Megna and defenseman Robert Bortuzzo have yet to dress after suffering lower-body injuries in pre-season games. Keven Veilleux is also still recuperating from last year's ACL surgery. All three are expected back soon.

JUNIOR LEAGUES

Quebec Major Junior Hockey League:

After a slow start with his new team in October Anton Zlobin went on a 10 game scoring streak totalling 18 points. He will represent the Russian juniors in the two QMJHL games of the annual Super Series.

Val d'Or Foreurs (7-7-0-2, 4th in Telus West Division)
F Anton Zlobin (19, 6th rd. '12): 10-12-22, 6 PIM, +6

Ontario Hockey League:

Scott Harrington will play for the OHL team in one of their two Super Series games against Russia. Olli Määttä had 11 points in 10 games in October. Clark Seymour scored 3 points in an Oct 25 loss to London, and is already about to set new career highs in goals, assists and points. Matia Marcantuoni started the season with an 8 game pointless streak before netting two goals Oct 19 against Oshawa. On Oct 26 Matt Murray stopped 35 shots and 3 of 4 in the shootout as the Greyhounds turned an early 0-3 deficit into a 6-5 shootout win over Erie. He has faced 35 or more shots in 11 of his 13 full games, and currently leads the OHL in saves and shots against.

London Knights (8-4-0-2, 4th in Midwest Division)
D Scott Harrington (19, 2nd rd. '11): 1-3-4, 4 PIM, +5
D Olli Määttä (18, 1st rd. '12): 1-12-13, 10 PIM, +3

Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds (9-7-0-0, 1st in West Division)

F Matia Marcantuoni (18, 4th rd. '12): 2-2-4, 8 PIM, -2

Peterborough Petes (4-7-2-1, 4th in East Division)
D Clark Seymour (19, 5th rd. '12): 2-5-7, 11 PIM, +0 (13 gp)

Western Hockey League:

Derrick Pouliot will represent the WHL in one of the their two Subway series games against Russia. Prince Albert, last season's worst WHL team, are off to a great start mainly due to cutting their GAA from 4.33 to 2.75 per game.

Portland Winterhawks (10-3-1-0, 2nd in U.S. Division)
D Derrick Pouliot (18, 1st rd. '12): 4-7-11, 15 PIM, +8

Prince Albert Raiders (10-4-0-2, 1st in East Division)
D Harrison Ruopp (19, trade with PHO '12): 0-6-6, 24 PIM, +9

EUROPE

Looks like a repeat of last season for Alex Pechurskiy: too good for the Russian 2nd tier, yet unable to crack Magnitogorsk's KHL roster.

Yuzhny Ural Orsk (14-3-1-0, 1st in Russian Major League)
G Alexander Pechurskiy (22, 5th rd. '08): 8-2-1, 1.93 GAA, .937 SP, 0 SO

Skellefteå AIK Juniors (10-2-3, 1st in Norra Division/J20 SuperElit)

Marcantuoni is in the line-up tonight so hopefully he's good to go and doesn't have any lingering problems. I'm pretty apprehensive with head injuries at this point.

WBS-wise, Bortuzzo will play this weekend and Megna might. Veilleux still out.

I wonder if the Pens will approach Pechurskiy with the WBS job next year in an appeal to get him to come back overseas. I can't see Thiessen being brought back and Zatkoff is on a one-year deal. Killeen hasn't ever really impressed, so the spot looks open. Pechurskiy has put up solid numbers everywhere he's played except for his one year sojurn with the Mississippi RiverKings and I have no clue if his numbers there are much out of line for that league. Wasn't he in some type of overage limbo or something and that's why he had a sort of lost season that year? Wonder if that soured him on his NA experience a bit. He was a solid player for Tri-City the year before, played a couple of games for them and was hit with the overage thing, putting him in a bad position to find a team, hence being a RiverKing. He's still a young guy and has some talent, I'd rather give him the job than go with some AHL filler goalie.

Wheeling won tonight 3-2 in the shootout. Killeen made 19 saves on 21 shots. He stopped all five shooters he faced in the shootout. McNeill had another penalty.

Yikes Maatta was a -4 tonight in a 6-3 loss vs Windsor

Good thing is that he's almost at a ppg

Oh yea, I was there last night as well as Saturday vs Reading. I can't comment too much on McNeill which I guess is a good thing as a defenseman. He does have a bit of a temper and almost took a stupid retaliatory penalty last night in OT.

As for Killeen, I think he's a guy a lot of fans have written off. This is a make or break time for him because with Desjardins hurt in Hamilton, Killeen is getting the bulk of the load instead of splitting time with Delmas. The guy has a great build for a goalie and has a wicked glove and is a good shootout goalie but he gives up some softies.

I'm not writing Killeen off quite yet, I think he'll have a great year because of how good the defense is on this year's team.

Who is McNeill paired with curently? That defense looks good on paper. Wild and Merth are pretty solid guys. Both could be on AHL roster and not look out of place.

Regarding Killeen, he does seem to have been written off. He made the ECHL All-Star team his rookie year. He seemed to play well in his call-up to WBS last season. I do not know what to make of him. If he gives up a softie here and there, so does Fleury and several other goalies. It happens. Does he go into a tailspin once it occurs or what?
