Agreed and he will also be seeing a lot of pucks in SSM. They gave up 40+ shots in both their games

Livestream of Skellefteå-Djurgården. First period just ended.
Sundqvist #32 on the firstline (black/yellow jerseys) box score: http://stats.swehockey.se/Game/Events/122699
Sadly the quality is bad so you can hardy make out the numbers, but it's the first time they stream a game so they get credit for trying.

Sundqvist pointless, but made a nice move and scored on his penaltyshot in the shootout. They won 3-2 in the shootout. i just catched the end. did anyone watched the game that can give some insight?

Not the most well played game. Can't say much about Sundqvist other than the nice penalty shot as I had trouble catching the numbers on the players.
I saw your question in the J20 thread on the Sweden-boards, and yes Sundqvist was described to be more of a power forward, but he surprised me too and has showed some really good hands and overall technical skills. The points are definitely no fluke. From what I've seen I'm pretty surprised he didn't play in J20 last year, his development curve must have skyrocketed during 2012.

Thanks for the write-up! Its hard to get any info since the coverage aint the best of the J20 elit league. suprised to see a stream tbh! Lets hope the points keep coming and that he plays a sound defensive game

Another solid game by Murray. He stopped 39 of 42 in a 4-3 win vs Sarnia.

Marcantuoni still stuck on zero points through 4 games.

Pouliot scored the lone goal (PP) in a 1-0 victory.

From a little I've read before the season, they aren't expected to do much and have missed out of the playoffs the last couple years. Most listings had them near the bottom of their conference.

Portland is really good at putting up highlights, so we'll be able to see a fair amount of Pouliot clips this year, much like Morrow last year.

Here's last night's game:

http://www.winterhawks.com/video/ind...49a360da715ea6

His goal was a rather weak one, but the clip does contain a nice move by him at around 1:20. Hoping to see good things this season.

It'll be bad if he ever makes it to the Pens, since he probably won't do well seeing only 20 shots a game, with 5 of them being high quality scoring chances

Zlboin has scored both of Val-d'Or goals so far today, down 4-2 in 2nd.

Light night for Murray, stopped 30 of 32 in 3-2 OT win vs Saginaw.

Zlboin scored another goal in Sunday's game. Has 3 through 4 games.

2 PP assists for Pouliot in Portland's 4-3 loss to the Kelowna Rockets, Murray's now got 3 wins to 1 defeat and both Pouliot and Zlobin are going at a PPG (5 gp for Pouliot 3 for Zlobin).

Zlobin picked up his 3rd goal of the season in a 4-2 defeat by Quebec, it was a PP goal.

Prospects Stats Update - Season Preview

Stats as of Oct 1
* denotes rookies
Italics mean the player is not on the team at the moment (promoted/demoted)

MINOR PRO

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (AHL, 44-25-2-5, 2nd in East Division)

Big roster changes are in store for Wilkes-Barre with seven newcomers, including two 1st round picks, entering the pro ranks. Fowards Beau Bennett (Denver/WCHA), Tom Kühnhackl (Niagara/OHL), Dominik Uher (Spokane/WHL) and Adam Payerl (Belleville/OHL) plus defensemen Joe Morrow (Portland/WHL), Brian Dumoulin (Boston College/HE) and Reid McNeill (Barrie/OHL) all compete for a spot on the Baby Pens' opening day roster.

The forward corps has seen a near-complete overhaul with last season's top 5 scorers all leaving: Ben Street and Bryan Lerg signed their first NHL contracts with Calgary and Colorado. Power forward Geoff Walker also signed with the Avalanche. Veteran winger Jason Williams left for Switzerland. Colin McDonald and Brendon DeFazio signed with the Islanders. Center Cal O'Reilly went to Magnitogorsk in the KHL, and captain Ryan Craig signed with the AHL's Springfield Falcons. In addition, Nick Petersen's contract was dissolved for personal reasons, he wound up with the Houston Aeros. Steve MacIntyre was re-signed by Pittsburgh for two more years but hasn't signed an AHL deal yet and is not at camp. Keven Veilleux is training but may miss the season opener after ACL surgery last fall.

To upgrade at forward the Baby Pens signed a couple of big names, starting with Trevor Smith as new #1 center. He hit the 20 goal mark in each of his five AHL seasons to date, and won the 2012 Calder Cup with Norfolk, finishing as the league's top playoff scorer (16 points in 18 gp). Smith will earn 300k in WBS, triple the usual veteran salary. Next up is gritty veteran Warren Peters who brings the experience of 545 AHL and 100 NHL games, including 58 last season with Minnesota, to the table. Peters has already captained teams in the WHL and AHL, and should provide lots of leadership and grit. The center trio is completed by Ryan Holzapfel, the 43rd overall pick by Atlanta in '06. Arguably an NHL bust, Holzapfel was traded mid-season to Anaheim's farm team Syracuse where he broke out with 22 points in 28 games. He is expected to be a good minor-league two-way forward. More two-way skill and experience were brought in with Philippe Dupuis (no relation with Pascal) who can slot into any forward position and has played over 100 NHL and close to 300 AHL games. Drafted 104th overall by Columbus in 2003, Dupuis was a big scorer in juniors where he won 3 QMJHL titles. Last season was his best yet in the AHL, topped off by a long playoff run (14 points in 17 games) to the Calder Cup Finals. Finally, speedy winger Benn Ferriero was signed in mid-July after spending three years in the San Jose system where he scored 14 goals in 92 NHL games. Ferriero can play either wing and projects as an energy forward at the NHL level. He won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2005 U18's and an NCAA championship with Boston College in 2008.

The defense saw few changes. Puck-mover Alex Picard joined Lev Prague (KHL) and was replaced with Upper St. Clair native Dylan Reese. Reese won the 2003 NAHL championship with the defunct Pittsburgh Forge before spending 4 years at Harvard where he won ECAC titles in '04 and '06, and captained the Crimson in his senior year. Drafted by the Rangers in the 7th round '03 but never signed by them, the mobile all-around defenseman worked his way up through the farm teams of Phoenix, Columbus and the NY Islanders, eventually amassing 74 NHL games (17 points) over the last three seasons with the Isles. Towering veteran and alternate captain Joey Mormina signed another AHL contract and returns for a fourth year with the Baby Pens.

In goal veteran Scott Munroe left for Adirondack, replaced by Jeff Zatkoff who was given a 2-year-contract to compete with returning Brad Thiessen. The Detroit native won a CCHA title as freshman starter for Miami-Ohio in '06, he was drafted 74th overall by the L.A. Kings the same year. In '07 he won Bronze as backup on the US WJC squad. So far Zatkoff spent his entire pro career in the Kings system. The last two years he was starter for the Manchester Monarchs, combining for a 41-34-3-6 record with a 2.59 GAA, .915 SP and 6 shutouts. Lack of playoff success (1-5 record with bad stats) and goalie depth made him expendable in the Kings system.

Wheeling Nailers (ECHL, 37-26-4-5, 2nd in Atlantic Division)

The Nailers stuck with Clark Donatelli as bench boss for the new season. The former assistant was made interim head coach last December after Stan Drulia left Wheeling for an AHL coaching job. In terms of key players the club retained last season's top scorer and ECHL All-Rookie teamer Chris Barton but lost captain Paul Crowder (Europe) and top blueliner Andrew Hotham (Cincinnatti/ECHL). Because of the lockout and Wilkes-Barre's stacked roster the Nailers should receive more NHL prospects than usual. Wheeling extended its shared affiliation with Pittsburgh and Montreal. New faces so far include forward Scott Zurevinski who attended Pittsburgh's prospect camp in 2011 (and will be reunited with former Quinnipiac teammate Zach Hansen)...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
G Patrick Killeen (22, 6th rd. '08): season starts Oct 13

NCAA

This is the last season before the arrival of Penn State at the top college level creats a Big Ten conference, causing a drastic overhaul of the WCHA and CCHA. Nick D'Agostino and Ben Hanowski will be co-captains of their respective teams. Latvian center Teddy Blueger will be one of only two NHL draftees playing for the Minnesota State Mavericks, a small fish in the big WCHA pond. Its European-sized rink should help the skilled playmaker showcase his strengths. Blueger could have joined the OHL's Oshawa Generals but stuck with his prior commitment to MSU. Goalie Sean Maguire will compete with former USHL star Matt O'Connor (Youngstown) for the starting job at BU who are known for their defense-first style under coaching legend Jack Parker (entering his 40th year behind the bench).

JUNIOR LEAGUES

Quebec Major Junior Hockey League:

After winning the Memorial Cup, Shawinigan started a rebuild that saw overtime hero Anton Zlobin traded to Val d'Or who are expected to be very competitive this season. In August he played for Russia's U20 in the 4 game evaluation series against Canada, scoring 2-0-2 with 2 PIM.

Val d'Or Foreurs (1-3-0-0, 5th in Telus West Division)
F Anton Zlobin (19, 6th rd. '12): 3-1-4, 2 PIM, +1

Ontario Hockey League:

Scott Harrington represented Canada's U20 in their series against Russia, playing as (alternate) captain and scoring 1-0-1 with 0 PIM. He is a lock to make the Canadian WJC team in December. His London teammate Olli Määttä meanwhile played for Finland at the annual U20 tournament (two U.S. squads + SWE + FIN) in Lake Placid, scoring 1-2-3 with 6 PIM in 5 games. Harrington and Määttä were named the Knights' captain and alternate captain. Clark Seymour is an alternate captain on the Petes this season.

London Knights (2-2-0-0, 4th in Midwest Division)
D Scott Harrington (19, 2nd rd. '11): 0-3-3, 2 PIM, +3

London Knights (2-2-0-0, 4th in Midwest Division)
D Olli Määttä (18, 1st rd. '12): 0-2-2, 4 PIM, +0

Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds (3-1-0-0, 2nd in West Division)
G Matthew Murray (18, 3rd rd. '12): 3-1-0, 3.23 GAA, .917 SP, 0 SO

Kitchener Rangers (3-1-0-0, 2nd in Midwest Division)
F Matia Marcantuoni (18, 4th rd. '12): 0-0-0, 4 PIM, -2

Peterborough Petes (1-3-0-0, 4th in East Division)
D Clark Seymour (19, 5th rd. '12): 1-1-2, 9 PIM, -2

Western Hockey League:

Derrick Pouliot will take over Morrow's PP quarterback duties as the Winterhawks take another run at the WHL title. The team added yet another stud defenseman in Seth Jones, one of the expected top picks in the 2013 draft. At the other end of the standings the Prince Albert Raiders have nowhere to go but up after finishing last in the league. Harrison Ruopp will learn his trade from assistant coach Dave Manson, a former NHL defenseman with over 3,000 PIM in over 1,200 NHL games.

Portland Winterhawks (3-2-0-0, 1st in U.S. Division)
D [B]Derrick Pouliot (18, 1st rd. '12): 2-3-5, 2 PIM, +1

Prince Albert Raiders (2-0-0-1, 3rd in East Division)
D Harrison Ruopp (19, trade with PHO '12): 0-0-0, 2 PIM, -1

EUROPE

Entering his final contract year with Magnitogorsk goaltender Alex Pechurskiy again missed out on the backup job behind Finnish veteran Ari Ahonen. He was reassigned to Magnitka's affiliate in the 2nd tier Major League, playing for nearby Orsk.

After putting up a combined 63 points in 46 U18 regular season and playoff games last season center Oscar Sundqvist now plays on Skellefteå's junior team who finished runner-up in their U20 league last spring. He is currently 2nd in goals and 3rd in points in the league. Sundqvist represented Sweden at the Lake Placid tournament, going scoreless with 6 PIM in 4 games.

Yuzhny Ural Orsk (6-2-1-0, 3rd in Russian Major League)
G Alexander Pechurskiy (22, 5th rd. '08): 2-1-1, 1.24 GAA, .959 SP, 0 SO

Skellefteå AIK Juniors (7-0-2, 1st in Norra Division/J20 SuperElit)
*F Oscar Sundqvist (18, 3rd rd. '12): 7-5-12, 8 PIM, +8

Great stuff as always Burgs. Much appreciated.

Veilleux better get off the IR shortly. This season's make-or-break for him.

I want to bet money with the guy guaranteeing that Veilleux is going to be an NHLer next season. The guy hasn't played hockey again for another year, and coming off a major knee injury this time. Who ****ing knows what he's going to look like this season. I'll be happy if he can stay healthy for half a season this time and puts up a .5 ppg average.

Agreed, I hope Keven Veilleux can overcome this injury. It's rare that you see a player with his size have great hands.
