Rangers to play in AHL during lockout

Quote:
Waivers NYR: Collins, Sean- Grant, Tommy- Haley, Micheal- Kolarik, Chad- Newbury, Kris- Pyett, Logan- Segal, Brandon- Vernace, Mike
https://twitter.com/RenLavoieRDS/sta...84317746143232

Most of these players require re-entry waivers except for Grant to play in the NHL. However, the NHL and NHLPA agreed to allow these players play in the NHL after the lockout is over without having to go on re-entry waivers. $105,000 is the threshold.

No surprises.

RangerBoy, is it regular waivers, ie. is everyone on the wire today eligible to claim by the other 29 teams in the league? I'd assume so since CBA is still active for 2 more days...

EDIT - Seems my suspicions were correct. Also can't see any of these guys getting claimed.

I know Kreider wants to play his first regular season game as a Ranger, but shouldn't he be playing in Hartford?

Edit - Forget it.

Kreider will be only player off NYR varsity to play for AHL Whale during lockout. Other kids all require waivers.

We discussed this morning in the lockout thread.

Those players would need to sign AHL deals to play in the AHL.

Quote:
@Aportzline As of last night, teams weren't sure if AHL was going to allow the signing of locked-out players.

cause he is a future Norris trophy winner and it would be dumb to risk it.

He's played too many games at the NHL level to protect him from waivers.

Lou might make Henrique play in the AHL during the lockout

Adam Henrique said NHL players who might end up playing in the AHL was one of the subjects discussed during NHLPA meetings.

Is the waivers rule not part of the CBA agreement? I thought once that expired, the only rules affecting which players play in the AHL are the rules of the AHL?

That's why teams are sending the players who can play in the AHL through waivers now. They will be assigned there before the lockout starts.

Stepan is subject to waivers (he's played in 180+ games). He can't play in the AHL during the lockout.

Sorry if this is in the WHALE thread but may as well think about what the AHL team looks like? I assume Redden will be waived down?

Assuming there is a lockout, Redden cannot play in the AHL. He'll be locked out with the rest of the NHL players who were not sent down to Hartford already (excluding Kreider who does not need to clear waivers and can be assigned to Hartford later on).

No reason to waive Redden out just to pay him.

Edit - Forget it.

He would probably be a beneficiary of a lockout. He would benefit from playing a couple months in an improved AHL (improved because the league will have quite a few NHLers added to it). It would be a good place for him to get confidence and pro experience.

In the playoffs, there was no time to truly practice, to truly work on particular skills, to truly understand the college-to-pro transition. The AHL during the lockout will be a midway point between the regular AHL and the NHL, so it would be a great place for him to get his feet truly wet.

I assume St. Croix will go back to the WHL. He's may not be ready for the regular AHL, and is certainly not ready for the AHL where the top line of most teams will be NHLers or borderline-NHLers.

what makes me mad is kreider wont spend a real full season of his ELC in a rangers uniform until next year which will be the final year of his ELC...unless of course something dramatically changes in the next week or two which i doubt

AHL won't be a bad experience for Kreider. His buddy Ryan Bourque is there. Torts will be watching the Whale during the lockout.
