Chicago Is a fairly deep team with many solid prospects in the system most of which are forwards. They now have a solid amount of NHL quality defenders which can make one possibly expendable.
Needs:Second line C for a 2-3 years, a big solid D prospect(all we have is Johns and Olsen) possible goaltending help.
Some of these things will be answered mid season(this year or next)
What can this package bring? I want to see te best offer.
N.Hjarlmasson-A number 3-4 defenseman, defensively sound and good positionally. Still very young and has loads of experience.
K.Hayes-A former 24th overall pick who is creative offensively and has good size.
V.Stalberg-While I'm a huge Stalberg fan,his value is high and there will be the likes of Saad,McNeill,Danault,Morin,Beach,Teravainen, etc eventually taking his place,
1st round pick(may be 20-30th)
But a second with the lockout
They're worth keeping on Chicago. The sum of the parts is probably greater than the whole as the year goes on. I can't imagine too many teams having a need for all those players to the point each one increases the value of the package.

Ironically, these are the pieces you'd have to move to get a quality 2nd line centre.

Chicago fans keep saying this, but I really do not think this is the case. People outside CHI aren't inflicted with some special blindness to his obvious flaws. If simply scoring 40pts playing with some of the best offensive talent of the WC in a top6 capacity meant instant high value, VAn would have that much trouble giving Mason away for free. Mason, who is mostly fast and servicable with good enough linemates as well.
He was joking. THe whole "Halak, Ryder, and a 2nd" thing was one of the deals offered on HFBoards unto death a few years ago. He meant the offered package is the new worthless one.
The real funny thing is that I was a Habs fan trying to make fair trade offers with other teams for Halak and had people saying Halak is not worth much. I bet most of those people would change their tune now. Which is what I said, then...

Replace Stalberg with Saad and K. Hayes with J. Hayes and we can look at a deal around Plekanec. Otherwise, that package is not interesting at all from a Habs perspective.
About equivalent to the Leafs' favourite package of Franson, MacArthur, and a pick/prospect, which isn't much.
CHI fans keep saying Hjalmarsson is young, talented, has upside, etc. but he is what he is, and that's a non-physical stay-at-home middle pairing d-man. He's young but he has no upside whatsoever to be a physical or offensive threat and that limits his value.
Stalberg is pretty underwhelming and one-dimensional, so much so that the top-six-challenged Leafs traded him away. He's someone that doesn't have the intanglables to play bottom-six but isn't quite talented enough to be a good top sixer, kind of a tweener.
Hayes I don't know a whole lot about other than scouting reports seem to think he has a lot of talent that hasn't translated into results on the ice. He's supposed to be the better of the Hayes brothers but hasn't shown it yet.
As others have said, best shot at a 2C is to use some prospects like Saad or TT towards the trade deadline with a team that is selling/tanking. Not trying to be rude but this board has had like a dozen proposals with these same players the last few days for 2C's and every fanbase has laughed at them, so that should be a good indication that they aren't worth as much as you think.

Matt Stajan + Tim Jackman + Cgy 3rd 2014 for Chi 1st 2014.
I'd trade Tim Connolly to the Hawks for something like a 3rd-4th round pick. Bozak is a better fit with Kessel/Lupul, while Grabo is simply much better than Connolly period, so he doesn't have a spot in our top 6, and even without Connolly we have a glut of possible bottom 6 centres (McClement, Kadri, Steckel, and even guys like Komarov, Lombardi and Colborne). He only has 1 year left in his contract, so little risk. He's a legit NHL player, I wouldn't want to give him up from nothing, but I could see the Leafs potentially dealing Connolly for a 3rd/4th, and I think they'd definitely deal him for a 2nd.
