To those of you saying he's overpaid, can you name teams that wouldn't take him at 6mil? The only one I think might be unwilling to do that are the LA Kings.

I'd love Lucic on the Habs. I'd kill to have him. However, I'm not entirely sold on his "talent" level. I don't think he's a true 1st line winger. Some kind of Scott Hartnell that can good it up. And at 18 millions for 3 years (seriously...), I wouldn't take him, especially considering we just locked Maxpac for 6 years(!) at a 4,5M cap hit...

In my opinion, a player of his type should be paid 5M tops a year, and on a longer term than that as well...

Milan Lucic is making 6M a year. Sidney Crosby is making 8,7M. I mean...

He may be a bit overpaid, but even if he regresses it's not a big deal because it's only a 3 year contract. Not great, not terrible.

Seems like alot but then again he is a 24 year old who has 2 consecutive 25+ goal and 60+ point seasons and he is only signed for 3 years.

I'd like to reply, but I'm not sure I understand what you're saying here.

55 points isn't awful, it's great, and when you bring the "intangibles" that Lucic brings to ice, it makes you an extremely valuable asset to your team. Just not "6M/3 years" valuable. Not only that, but this deal takes him straight to UFA status if I'm not mistaken. It's just bad.

He did drift away from his Komisarek-pounding style a bit, but I think he grew as a player since then. I personally preferred the old version of him, put points is what gets you 6M salaries, right..?

He's worth 6 I guess. Maybe too much but with that term it's good. 3 years is reasonable.

I don't even like Lucic, or the Bruins, but the things being posted in this thread are absurd.
Being out for empty net situations is good.

Leading the league in team is pure good fortune, plain and simple. All that says about a player is he was on a team that lead by 1 late often and was on the ice. As demonstrated by how he had 0 the next season.

If 5 empty net goals a season meant what you claim it means there would be a lot more players getting that. There isn't. The leader each year is just some guy with the good fortune to be in the right place at the right time a bunch of times that year.

Players might get 1 or 2 empties a year on skill, maybe 3 for an exceptional goalscorer like Oveckin or Kovalchuk, the rest is circumstance. Look it up. Guys getting 3 or more almost never repeat the next year.

Empty net goals aren't a skill like ES or PP goals are. They mean nothing about a player's offensive talents.

How are the Bruins ruining the market? Every deal they signed was for less money than the player would have signed for if he hit the market.
Oilers bought more years of Hall's UFA years. Boston did not with Seguin.

Jacobs is one of the biggest proponents of the lockout, and yet he's signing third liners to massively bloated contracts...

Hypocrisy at it's finest.

Lucic and Marchand are now the most overpaid players in the league. Wouldn't take either guy at a quarter of what they're making.

Yeah. One more year. Comparable deals. Seguin signed his after Hall. Like I said, the Bruins aren't ruining the market.

If Bruins fans are happy with the deal, well then it's what matters, with that said I think Lucic is a bit overrated as a player, will his scoring remain at 30 or more? Im not so sure but we will see as he is still quite young.

lol Lucic and Marchand are not third liners and while neither contract is exactly a steal (a little too much on both, but not terrible on either), they are far from the most overpaid players in the league.

So you wouldn't want Marchand at $ 1.125 million a year or Lucic at $ 1.5 million a year ???? You are truly an idiot of the highest level.

You're so wrong about Marchand and Lucic.

But I agree with the comment on Jacobs. What a joke this guy is.

Many Leafs fans are so foolish! Like a couple posters said pretty much any GM would take Lucic over Lupul or Kulemin!

Looking at the cap structure of the Canucks I couldn't imagine us paying Lucic $6 Million a year... I mean the Sedins (Art Ross winners, Hart, Ted Lindsay) make $6.1/year. Lucic is a player that we need but couldn't see him making $100,000 less a year then the Sedins.

20-30 goalscoring beast for $6M, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
Lucic is one of the meanest and hardest to play against in the league. One of the remaining true power forwards in the game.
