He stated publicly that he wouldn't be coming back, but since the Oilers officially just sent him here does that mean he will play for us? Very curious about this answer. If we get Yaki back we instantly move from a middle of the pack team to a contender.

Well I think if the oil suggest to him to go back to junior and dominate, I think he will go with what the organization wants.

He'll likely go to the KHL for a season. Get paid mid-6 figures, vs play for $50 a week in Sarnia.

Yea but it's really is up to the oil if they are against him going to Russia then I think he'll just go back to Sarnia, but if it's his choice then he's Russia bound...

^ this

to add:

He's been sent back..on paper... because he can't be sent anywhere else..on paper. If Yakupov actually reports back to Sarnia it will shock everyone as he has stated publicly(more than once) he is done with Sarnia. I expect him signing in the KHL within the next week or so will be the next news we see..

This is just a formality.
Any CHL player being sent back now can be invited back to the NHL training camps and still make the NHL team.
I know this is different from other years but this isn't like any other year. (also the old CHL agreement expired a cpl weeks ago)

Last night (Saturday) Yakupov said he is going to Russia on his Twitter account. He didnt say if it was vacation or for Hockey. I think its for Hockey.

**Before moving to Sarnia in 2010, Yakupov played a season for Reaktor, part of KHL team Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk’s organization, and the KHL side has already staked a claim to its former player.
"Yakupov will be playing in Nizhnekamsk in case of a lockout," general director Rafik Yakubov told R-Sport last month.

Can't blame Yak. Makes way more in the KHL, plus he doesnt really have anything to prove in Sarnia. But the above posters are right, on paper the Oilers had to send him down to Junior or I would assume the AHL.

Oilers basically gave him the option to play in the KHL with that move.

The Oilers couldn't send him to the AHL..their only option was the O.
