KINGS-Jackets-Edmonton.

To Columbus:
Bernier

To Oilers:
Mason
Loktionov

To Kings:
Dubnyk
Columbus 1st 2013
Oilers 2nd 2013

This Fair? Columbus Gets there starter...Edmonton get young center with potential and a goalie in Mason who has had a bad last couple years in Columbus but in my opinion still can get better, he is still young. And La get a solid back-up a top 5 pick(Columbus) and a high 2nd Rd. Pick.

Am I alone in thinking Bernier is worth no where near that?

Columbus gives up a likely top 5 pick and Mason and only gets back Bernier?

Loki is good and bernier is good but imo (as a kings fan) we wouldn't get anything close to that for them

Haha no. No offense to CLB (I loved what you did this offseason) but that pick could realistically be worth more than all the other assets in this deal combined.

Bad deal for Edmonton. Loktionov doesn't really fill a need (He's not THAT different from a number of players they already can't fit on their NHL roster: Paajarvi, Lander, Hartikainen, Omark) and Mason is a far inferior goalie to Devan Dubynk. I can see why Columbus would do it (Get a real starter, albeit at a really high price), I can see why LA would do it (lateral move at back-up and add a 1st and 2nd round pick), but I can't see why Edmonton does it?

snap deal

Kings trade their back up for another solid back up, then trade a decent but nothing special prospect for what could be a lottery pick + another solid pick

CBJ gives up a probably top 5 pick and Mason for Bernier?? Thanks for the laugh.

Seriously OP. You should stop making proposals until you get a real concept of value.

K bud sorry I value Bernier as a good starter with potential to be an elite goalie, mason is a 1 starter that should see around 40-50 games a year right now in his career, I think he'll be really good just not elite one day, I just put Bernier a couple Steps ahead.

Bernier will not return anything near that ludicrous package.

Except that Bernier has not yet been given an NHL load of 40-50 games a season, so one can't really tell how good he will be. At this point, he's in the same camp as someone like Dubnyk. Hell, I'd put him below Dubnyk simply because he's had experience as a starter, while Bernier hasn't (although this is really anyone's debate).

Anyway, Oilers pass on this cause they get hosed

Yeah, sorry bud, but if you think an unproven goalie is worth anything close to a top 5 pick then think again. Your concept of value is way off.

WE DON'T WANT BERNIER.

Someday we will say this and folks will actually get it.

EDIT: And since I know the followup to this is inevitably going to be incredulous re-discussion of why we don't want him even though it's been explained as often as the assertion has been made... we don't want him because 1) he's completely unproven, 2) what he has done in the NHL is not exactly engaging, and 3) the cost LA would likely ask for is not something we'd be willing to pay for an established starter, let alone him.

LA is not giving Bernier away. Therefore we have no need or desire for him. Certainly not if any first-round pick is going to be involved, least of all our own.

Bad time to mention that Columbus already picked up Bobrovsky, who's at least been a quality starter in the NHL?

Let's not go that far. Bobrovsky has been a starter.

He was a quality starter in 2010-2011, so it counts!

pay no attention to the fact that said designation also applies to Steve Mason circa 2008-2009

Does this deal work for any team? I mean sure LA gets a good draft pick, but what good is Dubnyk and his 3.5mil salary?

Your valuation is incorrect. Bernier has never yet been a starter, and in the NHL games he has played, he's been pretty underwhelming.

I think Bernier would be a good fit in Columbus and would thrive in competition with Bobrovsky for the starting role. This trade, however, is terrible for the Blue Jackets. There is no reason for Edmonton to be in this deal, either. The interesting part is that with Bernier, the Blue Jackets pick probably wouldn't be in the top 5 anymore, making the return much different.

How about this?

To LAK: Columbus 1st 2013, Steve Mason

To CLB: Jonathan Bernier, Andrei Loktionov, Thomas Hickey/Jake Muzzin

Steve Mason is a tricky player here because we've seen what he can do, it just seems like he's forgotten how to do it. I don't value him highly here, obviously. I don't see him being more than a backup goaltender anymore.
