I had been wondering about his stance in the negotiations. Before he signed his new contract, he reportedly talked with Jamison a few times about getting a deal done. He has a lot at stake, so it's natural that he'd be very involved. I had a feeling (hoped, really) that he might be much more amenable to the owners' terms with all he's gone through here the last few years.

Through all of this (ownership, lockout), Doan has set himself up to be working in the front office once he retires. Lots of good practical experience on the business end of things.

Ha, very true. Saw the tweets and did not even think about that.

I believe Maloney is the BoG representative for the Yotes.

According to the NHL Official Guide & Record Book the rep is Maloney and alternate rep is Nealy. The Coyotes website doesn't list the governor, but lists Maloney as the alternate governor under the front office membership descriptions.

Thanks Doaner!

Quote:
The Post has learned that Bettman’s ultimate willingness to listen on the final day of the lockout was the key to ending the stalemate.

Sources report it was a one-hour meeting last Saturday attended by only Bettman, NHL attorney Bob Batterman and the Coyotes’ universally respected Shane Doan that broke the logjam over the critical issue regarding the 2013-14 cap number.

Doan, who left money on the table as a free agent this summer to remain in Phoenix, explained that the league’s proposed $62.5M — increased at that point from the original $60M — would disrupt the lives of players and their families who would be forced to move because of trades and buyouts that would not otherwise take place under the union’s more forgiving $64.3M transition number.

The Coyotes’ winger convinced Bettman and Batterman that the issue wasn’t about financial gain for the players, but on the contrary, for players would inevitably suffer greater escrow loss via a higher cap. It was, Doan said, about family life.

Suitably impressed, the NHL power brokers agreed to meet the NHLPA’s number and by doing so resolved one of the few make-or-break issues that remained between the parties.

Speaking of Doan:

http://www.azcentral.com/insiders/sa...-negotiations/

Quote:
From Doan: “A humble apology for everything, and we’re going to do everything we can to earn back their appreciation for the sport. It’s no use saying who’s fault or who did what. I think we all owe them an apology, and we need to make sure we do everything we can to get this sport back to where it deserves to be because we’re all as big of fans as any.”

I'm glad to see Shane Doan play the key role in getting the season to start but of course the haters will just ignore that and only focus on the dirty things he has done(which is rarely) in order to paint him as a classless guy.

Now we got some more ammo to use on the haters.

Needs to be him from his celebration of that 2010 playoff goal.

Coyotes hope fans have not forgotten recent success

Quote:
“It makes you sick to your stomach when you think about it,” Coyotes goalie Mike Smith said. “You feel terrible for the people who got caught in the crossfire in all of this. As players, we didn’t want to go through it, we didn’t want it to drag on as long as it did. We’re as big a fan as everyone else and I know there’s going to be disgruntled fans in all this, but hopefully we’ll get back playing some hockey and hopefully lure them back to the game we all love.”

Phoenix Coyotes ready for season, fans to return

Quote:
Most teams will likely beef up their efforts to win back the crowd disillusioned by a second lockout in eight years — and one that’s cut roughly half this season — with aggressive marketing strategies and unique promotions.

Already, the Pittsburgh Penguins are offering free concession food vouchers and discounted merchandise during their first four home games.

The team does have a cache of incentives it could unveil. But until the schedule is released, these deals, such as value ticket offerings, won’t be official.

Season tickets also will be mailed out once the schedule is confirmed.

The Coyotes have seen a version of their schedule, but it won’t be finalized until the Players’ Association ratifies the new collective bargaining agreement.

If the Pens of all teams are offering deals, I can't imagine Phoenix not doing something.
