NHL proposes 50/50 split. This is huge.

Man, it's so close. Please take it and run.

The PA should take it on the simple fact that the league compromised and made an offer. That in itself is a win.

I don't mean to toot my own horn but to all the posters here who have been making fun of me ! The players were not aware of this offer the NHL has proposed. They will agree to this offer and there will be hockey within 2 weeks.

damn people, not to be negative but please do not count the chickens before they hatch. What may be 50/50 to one may not be 50/50 to another. At least this proposal was not immediately shot down by Fehr.

50-50 splits, no salary reductions & an 82 game season!

WOOooo!! This should seal the deal and if it doesn't then we can only blame the players going forward

50/50 no reductions? well maybe but what about the 5 year MAX on contracts and for Gods sake some kind of an out clause for non-performance ( the Gomez clause)
maybe the Habs can't ever get out of the contract but all future NHL contracts must now include a non-performance clause.

Even if the players don't sign that offer, I think the season itself has been saved with this offer. It's a very good start.

I guess we'll have to wait and see about the other details but I've never heard of a non-performance clause. How would you judge non-performance? Gomez might be a clear example but what about a guy like Kaberle who's still putting up points but many feel as if he's not performing up to his contract.

man if it WERE to happen

it would mean a really bunched up schedule, lots of games close to each other

i can imagine some players not being crazy about this

but as a fan? im drooling.

this is definately a breakthrough in the talks, and from bettman no less

It would only be ONE extra game per month. Not that bad for the players. Usually there's a Saturday to Thursday break about once a month.

EDIT: After looking at past schedules, there's no many such breaks. My bad.

I'd hate to see people get their hopes up with false hope. While I am cautiously optimistic about this new proposal, we have only heard the owners side of this proposal. Wait until the NHLPA respond after reading the entire proposal. It's very possible that this 50/50 may not be a 50/50 in the eyes of Fehr. While many players may want this kind of offer, Fehr has full autonomy and can easily reject this without a vote.

Listening to Fehr makes me feel less optimistic about a season starting on November 2nd. Brilliant PR move on the owners part as it puts the weight of the season clearly on the players shoulders.
