If they're doing the whole rivalry thing I would go out on a (complete) limb with Carolina.. my initial thought was TB but I wonder if they might want to do an all FLA matchup with the panthers vs TB

Could also see 'peg if they open on a Saturday and went to get Ovi on the opener of HNIC

Also, there's is still no ideal partner for Green on the team. Does Hammer have anything left in the tank? Putting Alzner with Green just opens another hole and ignores the fact that Alzner-Carlson are more than the sum of their parts. I'm guessing Oates might want to go back to the old Schultz-Green pairing.

Will be interesting to see how the line-up shakes out this year... Will Laich take the 3C spot and keep Johansson at wing, or will they move Johansson there and move Laich to a top-6 W spot? Who will be the fourth and final top-6 W?

You left out that both those players were Cup winners and by far not scrubs.

Last time I checked Hamrlik hasn't won a Cup. I'm fine with bringing in SOME older guys but don't go past 34 in my opinion. Even if you do this, YOU MUST HAVE DEFENSIVE DEPTH or your team will hit rock bottom when these guys retire.

Why do you think teams just don't hire all older players then for defense? When they all retire they're screwed. If you read my original posts I said Green could be dished for younger defenseman as we do not have enough depth. I never said if that happened we couldn't grab an older defenseman or two from the agent wire.

Why is it when Hamrlik and Green were a solid pair for the playoffs, people pretend it didn't happen?

Haha, why would you think that?

The only player I don't see ever being traded is Ovechkin and Nick. Two close to take apart. Then again they did trade Bondra so who knows.

The Draft. Doesn't mean you trade your defenseman for young inexperienced defenseman...

I said just Green who everyone can agree here is inconsistent. If you got a guy like Fayne or Voynov along with a mid age defenseman you're telling me you wouldn't do it?

Mid age like 27/28

The only thing that is preventing us from being even more of a Cup contender is more defenseman and waiting for our prospects.

Hell, i'd take Green for Michael Del Zotto and Anton Stralman this second.

Several reasons why I don't like him:

1. He is too injury prone

2. When he is healthy, he plays inconsistent

3. He chokes in the playoffs besides semi-last year

4. Off-ice behavior

Apparently 2010 Team Canada agrees with me (when he was at his prime, by the way).

1. He had a bad streak, and more bad luck then anything. He had an operation done for the groin issue and responded very well.

2. He had all of the health issues settled and had a good season last year. Not like he was the only one with inconsistent play last year either.

3. I don't hear you complaining about other players that have been on the roster at the same time.

4. Off-ice behavior? What is this all about?

I complained about Semin, too. Fans too much or misses, inconsistent and reportedly a bad teammate (not me, players). I hope you're right about the health issues. But I won't go into detail about the off-ice behavior. I knew his girlfriend and not sure if he's still doing the **** he used to do. Hopefully not. A lot worse than a Mike Richards or Jeff Carter, let's put it that way. Not just talking about partying and not giving a crap, it's more than that.

True haha.

Although I despise getting rid of Bondra, I actually like Laich alot. Very class guy and good player.

To think what he has done with this team compared to what Bondra had left in the tank, wow. Brought a whole new level of leadership to this locker room.

You don't have enough of a good, so you can get rid of that good because you don't have enough of it. Got it.

inb4 Brooklyn says Green isn't a "good".

Yeah it's much better to let him walk in 2 years like Semin.

Yea, but we were able to sign Fish Out of Water to be our 2C with Semin gone. It's gonna be great watching him center, uh, Brooks Laich and Joel Ward next season.

Do we know if there's any change to rookie contract length and years before free agency?

Last I heard they punted on that and made no changes on either of them. Haven't seen them mentioned at all in the various synopses, so am assuming that's the case in the final version as well.

What hasn't been clarified is what the limit will be for burning a year on Jr eligible guys, but that won't really matter for the Caps (will make some other teams' camps more interesting to watch, though, for guys like Galchenyuk).
