According to Dreger the Make Whole provision is the big talking point today. If this is where there at today it's a very good sign, looks like players would be willing to take an immediate cut as long as there is back end completion from the owners pockets and not future contracts.
That's fair owners, pay the players what you agreed to pay them just over a longer period of time so you don't lose any more immediately and players take a fair % of league revenue starting today.
who cares what that clown says? he's about the last person i'd believe.
obviously it wasn't a complete waste of time or they wouldn't be back at it for hours today.
when it's time to be negative, Le Brun or Dreger will let us know.
The TSN crew confirmed that the biggest issue of players getting what they had signed for, was not addressed yesterday ... and they weren't sure if they got to it today either. So Maclean wasn't far off. However, the TSN guys did mention that Daly and Steve Fehr likely had some lengthy discussions on the weekend about the 'make whole agreement'. However, it seems they have a ways to go yet.
According to Dreger, who is 10000X the source that MacLean is, said the Make Whole was discussed today and was the focus, so it wasn't discussed yesterday but I doubt they met for 7+ hours discussing knitting techniques. They are discussing everything to hash out a new deal and that includes a great many issues which takes time to work out. It wasn't a waste of time.
Meetings over for today, again neither side talking to media and again they will resume tomorrow. So far 14 hours of meetings and more to come.
Biggest talking points are revenue sharing and Make Whole provision, which seems to point out the 50-50 split starting now is done and it's coming down to how do players get rest of their money and how do teams support other teams in the future since 50-50 starts now and players won't be giving up any more.
With 2 full days of meetings and more to come with no breaks I have to say I am very encouraged and think a deal is very close.

I think the proper steps are being taken, but the players who are speaking to the media need to calm down. There is so much to cover and a lot of issues they disgaree on that it cant all be sorted out in 1 meeting or even 2 or 3 meetings. I am encouraged by the talks, and I really hope we can have a hockey season very soon.
I'm very concerned that the players are asking for much more than they're really entitled to on existing contracts considering all were negotiated with a future CBA down the road and possible escrow losses still existed. If the player are gunning for 100% of their contracts up front, this thing won't be figured out in the next couple weeks.
Talking is okay but only if they are really coming up with some solutions, otherwise they're just changing the playing field and both sides will need 2 more weeks to reconsider and evaluate where the other side is at.
I just hope the players stop with the "honor existing cotract" bit. They weren't worth full face value before and the owners or media will start calling them out on it and it will make everything worse. The owners are not going to give them more money up front, and that seems to be what they're asking for, I hope I'm mistaken about what the player requests were. I doubt the owners' concessions were much better either if the rumors about the offers are true.
The tweets and rumors don't sound encouraging.
Hopefully they at least have a framework both sides can use for proposals.
