This is just spitballing because I'm bored, but lets say Ana goes the rebuild route, this gives them future #1 and #2 centers, as well as a top 4 d-man ready to step in. Buf gets their coveted #1C and puts them in win now mode. Fire away.
Wow. Great trade IMO. I would assume that Buffalo would want some sort of assurance that Getzlaf would re-sign, but from Anaheim's perspective if they wanted to go full on rebuild I think this is a great trade.
If Getzlaf doesn't want to sign in ANA, this could work. I agree Buffalo would likely want assurances of Getzlaf resigning before dealing their top prospect, but this would easily push them into the playoffs and possibly make them contenders.
Que the sound people make after Buzz Killington says something in Family guy.
This is just bad. I don't understand why everyone is under the impression that the Ducks are in danger of losing Getzlaf.
Never alluded to it, but it's under the assumption that Anaheim wants a full scale rebuild. Obviously if not then it doesn't make sense to move your number 1 center.
Buffalo is a team that has the talent to take a run, and Getzlaf would help a lot. Not to mention they still have a lot of good prospects.
Unless Getzlaf agrees to an extension before the deal goes down, they dont do it. Theyll be just fine in a year when Hodgson, Grigorenko and Ennis are your centers
with Holland already in the pipeline, there's no value to the ducks in getting both guys. If they were going to trade a true #1 in Getzlaf, Im sure they'd rather go for a top prospect, instead of two very good ones.

Grigorenko is a top prospect in every sense of the word.
Why is Anaheim rebuilding exactly? Last season was an abberation, we've made the playoffs 5 out of the last 7 years, our core players are in their early to mid 20s and we have plenty of quality forward prospects who are on the verge of being NHL ready.
Anaheim could have had Grigorenko for the price of a draft pick in June, but they took Lindholm instead. I don't see why they would have any interest whatsoever in losing Ryan Getzlaf to get him a few months later.
If Pegula can re-sign Getzlaf to a huge contract as part of the trade, then I'm all for it. But without any insurance I'd rather hold onto Grigorenko. I really, really like his chances of making an NHL impact in the near future.
Not to mention that the Ducks would have just picked Grigorenko at #6 if they wanted him.
The fact that you didn't pick somebody doesn't mean you don't want them. I'm sure Edmonton would love to trade for Ryan Murray even though they drafted Yakupov instead of him.
Meh, maybe, but not as the centerpiece for a Getz deal
Sure. The poster I quoted said he'd rather have 1 top prospect than 2 great ones, when in fact he was getting a top and a great one, that's all I was pointing out.
If Getzlaf won't re-sign in ANA but would in Buffalo, this deal could makes sense, depending on how the season (if there is one) goes for each team. (For instance, if Getzlaf follows his bad season last year with another one this year, **** no to this.) But my gut reaction is "Noooo, not Grigs". The kid has an incredible amount of skill and talent and could become a top 10 center in the league, and fits in well with the other young players/prospects we have.

Not going to kill the deal, don't see Anaheim doing this. Grigorenko is an awesome prospect, Adam's stock took a bit of hit last year, still think he is a good player. At the very least this trade needs Stafford or Pominville involved. You don't trade a player of Getzlaf's quality and an established NHL D-man without at least one proven top 6 player of less value than Getzlaf coming back.
Of course at the point you do that nobody in Buffalo will want to include Grigorenko anymore, if they ever really did in the first place. They should considering how good Getzlaf is, I think most Gm's would assuming the extension/right to talk to him was approved.

Well then Adam could be substituted, but he does play as good on the wing as he does at center. He's very multifaceted. Can make plays, shoot, and get in the corners. 6'2" 215 If I remember correctly. Only 22. And how can you say that Grigs is not a #1 prospect? He slid for stupid reasons but he's a top talent. I don't think Getz could net a real top prospect like Hubs or one of Edmonton's calves. These are three very valuable prospects
