Gary is a troll that doesn't mind playing the bad guy roll and being hated so in some ways that makes him more fearless at his job. He is not talented but he doesn't worry about who he pi55es off which makes for less homogenized boring writing and in some ways he seems to work harder at selling (himself, papers, radio ads, sponsors products). I don't like the guy but he is pretty high profile god help us.

He is a 4th line agitator

My big concern is will this contract cause him to lose focus now that he has been paid the big guaranteed money (time will tell and I sure hope not)?

Pavs by all accounts gets along well with his teammates but isn't the hardest worker on and off the ice and had the DUI issue, and oh yea, with held the issue while negotiating his new contract (at least I am guessing he and his people withheld the information). So Pavs screwed up big time but gets along well with others and needs to grow up and work harder IMHO

The Buff incident seems to have gotten blown away out of proportion. He passed the breathalyzer but then things got weird. He is a popular guy but I would like to see him more committed to fitness in the off season.

These would be three guys that are all getting paid VERY WELL that I would like to see dedicate themselves more to maximize their god given talents. Up to this point Kane has earned his keep on the ice so as long as that continues and he is not too disruptive to team chemistry I don't care that much that he is an a55.

my 2 cents worth not that anyone cares
I hear ya.

My concern with Pavs and Buff (though i agree Buff's situation was odd) is they did something illegal. That's not cool in my books.

Kane will have to recognize his image is very important and even if he's an a55 like you mention, if he's shown in 'non-a55' situations (spending time at local children's hospitals for instance), that may balance it out more and improve his image. And even if he doesn't want to do those things, it may mean more endorsements, etc.

I would think his agent needs to coach him a bit more.

But hey, the kid scores 40 or 50, be a prima donna, just don't do anything stupid or illegal.

I have read multiple reports of Kane doing charity work in Atl, and back home in BC. Those reports definitely don't get the hype that this kind of thing does.

To add an element of hilarity to all this...

Apparently Kane wasn't even in Vegas last night.

Swingers came out in 1996.

Evander Kane was born in 1991. He was five when that movie came out. So no, he probably hasn't seen it.

Good assessment, some of the guys defending Kane's latest attention seeking ploy fail to realize that most hockey players would never do that, it's about class and character. Don't think you would ever see guys like Ladd, Little, Bogo or even Scheff pulling crap like Kane.

At last years Jets skill competition you could see what the other Jets players thought of him (Kane).

You would have thought not being good enough to play in the KHL would have put his ego back in check.

You must be old if you are not aware that there are recording and storage devices that enable you to watch movies at a later date!

Good lord.

First and foremost. THIS PICTURE IS FROM NOVEMBER. So those who are worried about his training, that is what he is doing right now in Vancouver.

I spent all morning defending him on Twitter (I know, why bother, right?).

Yes, he is a cocky and arrogant, immature kid. Yes, that picture, in this moment in time, was a very poor choice to make. I get all of that and understand it.

What I do not get, what made me extremely pissed off and caused me to speak out was the things people were saying about him. They were demonizing him, questioning his quality as a friggin human being, calling him names.

WTF?

What Kane did was post a pic. A very rich kid, having fun in Vegas.

What these people were doing (media types included) was intentionally saying things that were hurtful and damaging. Tell me who is right, here? Kane = no intent to hurt or offend, or others = malicious and bitter.

Kane may not have the typical, polite, yessir nosir attitude that we come to expect from Canadian hockey players but ffs he is a Jet and he re-signed HERE. There are far, far worse athletes out there. Drug doing, wife beating, dog fighting losers.

Perspective.

What's the difference between this and Bogosian posting a picture of his brand new truck?

Because it's Evander Kane and people love to hate him.

The tweet wasn't even a "look how much money I have" thing. It was a specific tweet aimed at Floyd Mayweather.

Well... Gary Lawless just jumped the shark.

He just said either Kane is:

a) pretty much a sociopath that doesn't care about anyone
b) orchestrating an elaborate I want out of Winnipeg ploy

Basically what I said, only more passionately. It was definitely poor timing on his part to post that picture, but all of the slagging online is worse. Way to show your character, keyboard crusaders.

It would've been one thing if he was actually an ELITE player acting cocky and such.

His actions are funnier because he just ISN'T an elite player.

Go look at a list of 20 year old 30 goal scorer since the last locket. Pretty elite company

Who here can honestly say they don't dream of being 21 years old, millions of dollars in the bank, a job you work 2-3 hours a day at (at least during lockout right now), semi-famous (famous enough to get the girls, not so famous you can't go out and be anonymous if you want, particularly in Vegas) and being in Vegas? It is the ultimate dream come true.

And people are going to fault him for having fun and making a pose with some money? C'mon now. If he was doing something illegal, sure go after him. If he was trying to hurt somebody in any way, sure go after him. He is having a good time, and posted it online. Just like every other 15-25 year old does...so he has money, what difference does that make? Not every player needs to be strict by the book, no humour, all serious all the time, politically correct all the time, class acts. And quite frankly, you wouldn't want that...a team needs all sorts.

I have zero issue with this picture. And making any kind of statements regarding his personality from this picture or interviews is, IMO, dubious at best. You nor me know what Evander Kane is like off the ice, stop pretending you do. I still don't like him as a hockey player, but that's a whole 'nother can of worms.

Am surprised that some have chosen to pick this situation as an opportunity to express moral outrage. Given the benefit of age and hindsight, I'm quite sure that if anyone had granted me with tens of millions of dollars at Kane's age that I would by now have an entire network of websites featuring movies of me riding an elephant down Madison Avenue in New York, naked, and while surrounded by an assortment of armed guards and busty strippers. Kane's behavior in comparison has proven quite tame.

Is that the benchmark these days??

30 goals is a lot for a 20 year old.

Here is a list of everyone that has done it since 1990.

http://www.hockey-reference.com/play...order_by=goals

If that isn't an elite group, I don't know what is.

Its impressive but he needs to repeat this to be even considered elite IMO. He had a great season and I really expect more of the same whenever we have hockey again but until he repeats 30 I would not consider him an elite player.

Lol @ Kane's explanation. Does he already know Mayweather or was he seriously trying to get noticed by him by sending this tweet?

As stated before, I don't get the reaction by many, especially on tsn.ca where everyone is coming out of the woodwork to attack him. HF Jets has been cool about it. Kane is becoming a walking comedy show for us. First, his "agent" wants money to hype up local restaurants. Then Kane apparently doesn't tip. Then he ends up on The Dirty website (my personal fave Kane comedy highlight). Now he tweets this. Personally, I am looking forward to the next 6 years. "This kid is gold, Jerry, gold!"

No doubt. A while back, I created myself in NHL 11 and scored 33 goals. If I can do it these studs should be potting a cool 40 per season. Was gonna send a screenshot to Chevy to see if I could get a walk-on but this stupid labour dispute comes up...
