What happens to Getzlaf and Perry?

Since they didn't sign an extension, if the league was locked out for the year. Would they become unrestricted when it resumes?

Yes they would become UFAs. I'd assume the league would give a negotiating period for clubs to re-sign guys whose contracts expired before everybody got a shot at them though.

Here is an article from Eric Stephens about negotiations with Getzlaf.

I'd say the chances Getzlaf re-signs are very high. Perry, I'm not so sure of and I have a hunch he's gone at the end of his contract.

The new CBA will dictate what is required to become a UFA, so the answer is, it depends. Under the current system they will indeed be UFA's.

We all knew that they would not sign before the new CBA.

I find it funny that Fowler had no talks with the club yesterday and signs today.

I would be happy to see the Ducks deal away these players, so you know, they don't lose them for nothing as a UFA . Trade em' as soon as possible preferably out of the division

Not much to negotiate on Fowler's contract IMO. It's the same that most defenseman of his talent get on their 2nd contract..4-5 years in a range of 18-25M.

Can't do that during a lockout either...right?

Best they could do, in the event the season is lost, is try to trade the negotiating rights once a new CBA is in place--assuming they can't reach agreements on extensions.

There are a few high-profile players in this situation, but let's hope it doesn't get there.

Seems like a nightmare scenario for the Ducks.

I think if they left Anaheim would be forced into a rebuild. Trade Ryan for futures and try to speed it up a little.

Burke will go hard after both.

My guess is that he lands Getzlaf and Perry goes elsewhere.

That isn't what he said, or implied. You said Anaheim would be worse than Columbus. I think you just don't know enough about Anaheim, or their young talent.

Not to mention, any team would be hurting if you took four key players.

I'm not worried about Getzlaf leaving. He has a family here, he's said he wants to stay here his entire career, and frankly, he just wouldn't have any privacy on the Leafs.

Perry is the question mark, as he's been fairly quiet about, well, everything.

As long as the new CBA allows long term deals Burke won't be able to bring in big name UFAs with his self imposed 5 year cap. Also he refuses to do retirement deals (which are hopefully taken out).

Words don't mean anything in this business.

Rick Nash wanted to finish his career in Columbus. Or that's what he said.

Imho Getzlaf most likely resigns with Anaheim with an outside chance at the Leafs.

Perry will go. Where he ends up? Nobody knows.

(sigh) You do realize that Anaheim wouldn't lose all four players and not attempt to replace them, right? Your argument is just silly.

"Hey, let's take four of the best players off a team, and see how they match up against other teams."

I'm sure he said that before they floundered season after season. Success with a team can make staying a very appealing prospect, especially when success, in this case, lead to a Stanley Cup.

It's funny how words don't mean anything, but if a player says anything that even hints he might want out, it might as well be blood in the water. Getzlaf hasn't given Anaheim fans a reason to doubt him, so why should they? Because it would make other fans happy to think they can acquire him?

Of the two, the question mark is Perry.

Ya a 24 year old 1st line winger on a great contract would hurt our rebuild.

Well if he wanted out before, he'll definitely want out if both leave. The amount of futures he would garner from a contender(ex. defensive prospects from Pittsburgh) could be well worth it in the long run.

But that's only if both leave, which I doubt happens.
