I actually want our players to play games elsewhere. Keep them fresh and ready and allow them to stay in shape. I really hope whoever goes overseas to stay healthy and safe.
I'm much more comfortable with the SEL, Finnish league or Czech league than I an the KHL.
I'm sure Frolunda would be thrilled to have Lundqvist back for a time, if he agreed to it.
Frederik Andersen broke Henrik's shutout record for Frolunda and lead SEL in GAA and Sv percentage. I'm guessing Frolunda would possibly use one of their NHL spots on Karlsson/Alfredsson instead?

I'd rather he be in shape when we come back. I suppose its a give-to-get and depends on your own value assessment. The Swiss league is a tough defensive league with some smartly coached squads, we saw that well enough when we played them last preseason, so its not like he'll be scoring at will and drinking 6 packs in between periods.

The most disappointing part of all this is that the players are clearly under the impression that this lockout is going to last awhile... I don't see Rick Nash - who makes a boat load of dough moving over to Switzerland - either with or without his family - to play hockey - if he feels that this is just going to last a few weeks.
Of course, I'm sure the players know the issues, but have no idea what's actually going on at the bargaining table (like most labor union negotiations). However, the union is most likely letting the players know that this could last awhile though...

I don't think that's the reason why Hagelin coulden't be sent down to Hartford. Hegelin has already played in too many NHL games to be waiver exempt (based on his age when he signed his professional contract last year).
Players who are/were not required to pass through waivers can also been sent down, regardless of whether or not they were on the AHL clear day roster. After all, a player like Kreider is allowed to play in the AHL, but was not, obviously, on the AHL clear day roster last seaon.
North American players like Thornton and Nash going right away to Europe is a bad sign. Looks like we won't see hockey until the new year at least...
Why? The players going to Europe are signing contracts with an out clause that allows them to leave if and when the NHL season starts. No one expects a whole lot of movement with the CBA talks for the next month or so and players are ready for training camp/playing games right now. If they wait a month, they will won't be in game condition when they go over and they will be coming in well after the season starts. Better they go now so they can play right away and thus stay in game shape. I also have no doubt that many European teams would prefer to see NA players come sooner, rather than later, so as not to disrupt the team as much.
If there is no movement by November 1st, then starting after New Year's becomes much more likely, but there's still time to get things moving sooner. Assuming of course that there is any lines of communication open now between the NHL and the NHLPA.

Yeah I agree. If Nash struggles in Davos I can already start my pile of s*** to throw at the TV when NHL hockey does resume. I wonder what Brichards is going to do?

If you worked at McDonald's and the workers went on strike, and all of a sudden Wal-Mart offered to temporarily employee you will the McDonald's situation gets relatives, you'd honestly tell me that instead of going to work you'd sit on your ass an just accept not being paid?
It makes no sense to just sit there and not get any paychecks when you could:
1) get ready for the season
And
2) get paid to get ready for the season.

Why are you bashing just the players then. They were forced to look elsewhere when a deal couldn't be reached. It's not just there fault they can't go to training camps (where I'm sure they all would rather be)

Owners of the teams losing money can sit on their hands and break even while the players will be losing checks.
Who has the leverage? Who do you think is going to cave first? Its clear as day. Just do it now, save yourselves some money and save everyones time and sanity.
Heard Ovechkin yesterday saying hes prepared to play the whole season over there. Thats great for him, he can stay there for all I care.

Its awfully tough for me to make a comparison to the "real world" like you did here.
The McDonalds/Wal-Mart issue is about putting the next meal on the table.
The NHL/Euro league issue is about buying a Lexus instead of a Mercedes.
If theres anything I've learned in the business world, its that the higher the dollar values get, the more political and downright nasty the negotiations become. Its just how it is.
