Chip Alexander @ice_chip
Rutherford confirms waivers for Boychuk, Bellemore, Krueger, Samson, Brett Sutter, Wallace, Gragnani, Sanguinetti, Peters, Terry, Blanchard.

Guess that more or less confirms Boychuk's value.

Has absolutely nothing to do with his value and everything to do with him having to clear waivers to play in the AHL this season. Same goes for everyone else that was sent down.

I won't be shocked if he's claimed... though should that team attempt to send him down we'd have first rights to claim him.

Everybody will clear, none of those guys provide any value at the NHL level

Sure it does. If they thought they'd get something, he probably would have been dealt already. I get that with so many players being sent down at once he's probably unlikely to be claimed, but if they thought he still had value they could have easily told him to go play in Europe without exposing him to waivers. IIRC Bowman is waiver eligible and not being sent down.

Few if any players are claimed during these rounds of waivers. These are typically guys not expected to make the big clubs. And this year it's he guys who wouldn't be playing either way...with the lockout. You have to stock your AHL roster. And any team claiming these guys has to make room for them on their NHL roster. You'd have to be claiming a guy that you have a TON of confidence in.

Has anyone been claimed from any of the teams? Not sure if is because none of them are worth anything or if the GMs all have a handshake agreement not to claim them

No one is being claimed by anyone. Obviously a handshake deal in place so they can keep their young players busy. Not at all a reflection of value for anyone, including boychuk. You don't think anyone is interested in sangs? Dalpe would be in the waiver list too if he wasn't protected. Only guy stopped was bowman who played the most in the NHL. That may be part of the handshake deal, guys legit in the NHL last year don't go down.

I think it's an unwritten rule of some sort.

No player on waivers today. Every player who was on waivers this week cleared.

It's kind of funny in hindsight to think that by our expectations a few years ago, we just waived half our top six and our goalie of the future.

I know you are just joking around, but other than Boychuk, not even the most optimistic poster had any of these other guys anywhere near the top 6 (or in most cases, not even in the top 12).

And with Peters only being 2 years younger than Ward, he was never though of as anything but a potential backup.
