German and English are fairly closely related and have a number of common roots. Also, it's easy to recognize hockey terms by their usage and by the fact that some are still in English, e.g. "top spel in the world" (though google says spel is game, not league, but whatever)

edit: and apparently "world" is "welt"....basically the same word such that I heard it as world with an accent .

I believe they said "top spieler in die Welt" which would mean top player in the world or one the the best in the world... (referring to Giroux I believe)

EDIT: "die Welt" not "der Welt"... gotta remember which is which...

I would guess he said "spieler", which means player, referring to Giroux

Absolute proof of my point that the languages are related and so you can almost understand German hockey even if you don't speak German!
