I'm a little lost on the rules on the shootout over there.

Stop putting Kovy in! He's only good for one! Try Tarasenko again.

At least he scored on his first try though. In the NHL the same player doesn't go more than once so I'm not worried.

Kovy was only one of two guys to score for his team in the shootout anyway. I think?

He's still the best shootout player in the world, I could care less.

If guys went more than once in the NHL I don't think Kovy would have scored every time either. He did score on his first try which is all he would have needed for us. I didn't expect to see him again! I thought my feed skipped back or something.

Yes he is. Thank you grammar police too.

And he's much better than Parise at the shootout too.

Cool. I recall Kovalchuk used to be putrid in the shootout but let's use one hot streak to justify him being the best because we're homers with no attention span!

I disagree.

Parise is pretty damn good at the gimmick, considering virtually all his goals are from 10 feet or less...

Anti-Kovalchuk rounding up again. He only scored once in a KHL shootout game!!!

Parise relies on the same moves in the shootout that he changes from time to time but it's mostly the same old. It's pretty predictable unlike Kovalchuk's.

Kovy was the best shootout player in the league last year. He was pretty mediocre before that. He did score on his first try today and that's all that would matter in an NHL game. I wouldn't really call it a hot streak last year as he was consistently good throughout the whole season. Our last shootout of the season against Chicago when he was stopped he had a rough game the whole night. Another time was a sick pokecheck by Brian Elliott.

Parise was AWFUL in the shootout after 2 months last year. More than once we needed Marty/Moose to stop everything, and Kovy to score to win the game. Not to mention the attempt where he lost the puck. If that was Kovy people would have complained for weeks about it, and never forgot it.

At the same time I don't expect Kovy to be as great in the shootout this year as last though I'd say above average still.

Hopefully we can win more games without the shootout.

If this was an NHL game it would have counted because he scored on his first attempt, and that's all you're given in the NHL.

Yeah, sorry, but Kovy is probably not the best shootout player in the world. He was definitely the best in 11-12, but I'm inclined to believe his 05-06 thru 10-11 performance is closer to his real skill.

At this time last year, Kovalchuk was actually one of the worst shootout guys for how many attempts he took. So, in one year, he went from one of the worst to the best? Does that make any sense to anyone?

Wait did I just read Kovy is playing in a league he doesn't care about? Next thing I'm going to read that Kovy is better than Datsyu.....oh....

Weather's rainy this time of the year isn't it?

And what the hell does Parise have to do with Kovy's shootouts? There are other players out in the "world" than those 2 wingers.

That would apply to any player who can change their shootout game like Kovalchuk. The fact is that their is a noticeable difference in how Kovalchuk goes into his shootout attempts compared to previous years. He flies in at a high speed instead of before with Atlanta where he usually went slow and mostly went for the shot.

The fact is that with this change their was a significant difference. Kovalchuk had a 78% shootout rate last year but although I don't think that would sustain for the rest of his career I can easily see him shoot at a 60% rate which would be the best in the league.

Dude, go look up the highest percentage guys who regularly go in the shootout... I.e., have at least 20+ attempts. Their numbers never come close to hitting 60%. That's still freakishly high.

last 5 seasons data for the top 100 ranked players sorted by total goals with goals/yr on the far right (to indicate injury years or years not making the top 100)

Kovy had 1 awesome year. Semantics say you could say he's the best shootout player in the NHL "right now" I suppose since there's no more recent data to refute that.
