S. Kostitsyn running his mouth now about the NHL. Seems like Kovy is the only Russian that hasn't yet. Too busy racking up points.

This is really all that needs to be said:

Best PK Save % in 2010-2011: Florida (915%)
Florida's PK Save % in 2011-2012: 869%

Best PK Save % in 2009-2010: St. Louis (915%)
St. Louis' PK Save % in 2010-2011: 865%

Best PK Save % in 2008-2009: Minnesota (933%)
Minnesota' PK Save % in 2009-2010: 862%

Best PK Save % in 2007-2008: New Jersey (901%)
New Jersey's PK Save % in 2008-2009: 859%

Special teams, especially the penalty kill, is dictated heavily by luck.
I think the PK was legitimately good. Though I can remember two or three times a penalty expiring only seconds before a goal was scored that was not considered a PP, but would have been by a difference of a couple seconds literally.

In the playoffs it looked a joke, and I'll tell you I don't expect it to be that good this year or whenever a season starts. Which is why the PP NEEDS to be better. I noticed when our PP was getting really good mid season our PK became mediocre temporarily. I think this was due to many of the same personnel on both units. If our PP isn't working this year, and our PK is as bad as it was in the playoffs, then I hope they come up with a new PK unit, so we don't burn up all the forwards on the PK which takes away from their energy on the PP.

True. Datsyuk's too classy to say anything bad/stupid.

Let those bums run their mouth. Kovy actually turned down big KHL money(Tax free) to stay in the NHL. He's also said the NHL is the best league in the world, and how badly he wants to win a Cup. Let Ovechkin(Who hasn't even been to a Conference Final yet) and other bums keep talking. How about Bryz, and his stupid ''We'll lose as many seasons as we have to. Problem is humangus big in NHL right now'' comment. They should seriously just shut the hell up.

Kovy is one of the more classier guys in the league I think. He spoke briefly about the lockout right before going to Russia. What he said made sense, and he wasn't whining or complaining like the other bozos.

Another 2 pts game for Kovy. Almost 3 pts, if Tarasenko would score that empty netter. Think Kovy should shoot himself instead.

Kovy is a god over there! These people are going crazy for him in that crowd. The camera was focusing all over him in the handshake line, and after. I really haven't followed this KHL at all, but by the way it looks they haven't seen a player like him in a while. He's easily been more impressive than Malkin, and Ovechkin over there.

Bobrovsky was pretty good today too.

Too bad he lost them that 1 OT loss in there all by himself by going 1 for 4 in the shootout!

Not that our PK wasn't legit good, but remember that all those teams who had great PK save %'s probably thought their PK was legit good those years. Then look what happened the next season.

Sometimes pucks will just find their way into the net when shorthanded, and when that happens, we're much more likely to nitpick over the mistakes we see our teams make. When the puck stays out, we're much more likely to over look the errors.

Recent league history is not on our side when it comes to forecasting a similar PK performance this year. Unless we think that there is something truly, truly special about DeBoer and our cast of PKers, expect a drop off.

I definitely expect a drop off. I'd give some guys like Josefson, Carter, Bernier, and Gio more PK time. Guys like Patty, and Kovy can get more PP time then to use that energy. The PK is my biggest worry. With increased contributions we can score as many goals as last season, but the PK is a question mark. We might give up more goals, and we certainly probably won't score 15 shorthanded goals either. This has been a worry of mine for a while.

I do remember many high quality chances shorthanded for the other teams for a while still once we stopped actually giving up goals. Marty usually wound up bailing them out after getting used to seeing so many breakaways at that point.

Can't blame you if you're translating from Russian. You don't use articles like "the" in Russian much, right? And I believe prepositions are a bit different too.

I have no problem with what Kostitsyn is saying. He is just telling what he thinks, without being PK.

"I can play in the KHL for the whole year and I'll do it with great pleasure," the Russian explained.
"I am glad that no matter where we play we get a full house and very good support from the spectators. And it's also nice to play in a good team. I'd love to compete in the playoffs for SKA. But if suddenly I'll have to leave for the NHL, I don't think it'll be a big problem for the team as we've got four equal lines."
Ilya Kovalchuk demands full value of his contract from NHL, whatever that is

Cue: Kovy thinks the Devils are a bad team with bad fans

Makes no sense unless he's getting equal pay in Russia which we can be pretty sure he's not

If he would annul his NHL contract, he would surely get even more money in Russia on a new contract there.
