Sergei Kostitsyn would like to stay in KHL after lockout

F Sergei Kostitsyn would like to stay in KHL after lockout as his agent said, but he has valid NHL contract so is obligated to come back.

I can't speak Russian so I'll have to take you at your word that that's what it says, but didn't he just sign a contract in the NHL? no one made him do that...

Probably a PR statement as to why he's not playing in russia anyway.

I had a case with Sergei Kostitsyn, who is willing to stay here. But he has no right to stay and will be obliged to return, and Shalaev me personally confirmed.
his agent said, btw Shalaev is vice-president of KHL, resposible for transfers etc

Hardly surprising seeing AK's exile.

Isn't he just saying that he wishes he could commit to his team for a whole season, but obviously can't due to NHL uncertainty?

I understand that more as "it would be nice to be able to commit to a team for a whole year, but it's not possible". Not "I'd rather be in the KHL, but damn that pesky NHL contract".

But again, obviously I can't get the subtleties from the article itself.

it says Sergei would stay in KHL after lockout, agent/player asked KHL office if it is possible, reply was not because he has contract in NHL.

IMO guys who will be RFA/UFA next summer, will consider staying in KHL.

When you post a link, you really should put it in English. I'm sure very few people on this site can read Russian.

He is saying read post number 4, and this is nothing at all. You titled this thread as if SK is going around saying he wants to play in the KHL for the rest of his career, but cannot. All the quote says is he would stay (no amount of time specified), but since he has an NHL contract he will not.

So... basically nothing new here.

He signed a contract and then the team locked him out. If his employer doesn't want to honor the contract and play hockey, then he has every right to want to move on.

Until the lockout ends and his contract goes into effect.

Exactly.

And add to that, it's not like he had NO IDEA that there could be a work stoppage...

What does this have to do with anything? The AK trade was a trade deadline rental who would have stuck around had Poile thought he fit in with the team. Picking up SK has proven to be a good move. Suddenly because there is a lockout and SK is one of a whole slew of NHLers going to other leagues it turns into a bad move? Ridiculous...

To be fair, I think it's only Montreal fans who ever thought that. And Nashville still got a few pretty decent years out of Sergei which is more than we got out of Dustin Boyd and Dan Ellis.
