Thankfully it didn't cost the Huskies their season.
I know the outcome would still be the same but the goal that was no goal was indeed no goal. The puck went above the crossbar and hit he back of the pipe and bounced back into play.

You look close enough you can see the puck go over the crossbar not under it. Hell I'm half blind and I can see it.

Proud of my Mavericks tonight. Took control of the toughest first round opponent and will go on to St. Paul!

Glad to see Minnesota State make the Final Five (and likely clinch a NCAA Tourney berth).

You can book North Dakota-Minnesota Friday night. Oh how this will thankfully be the last tourney at the X I will have to put up with Whioux fans for a while, works for me.

UND 4 - CC 2
UW 2 - MN St 1
UND 3 - MN 4 (Double OT with a certain dive involved )
UW 3 - St Cloud + 1 flopper 2
UW 10 - MN 9
That would be awesome to watch though, even if the score was flip-flopped.

This.

Hastings has done a pretty decent job in his first year and the players are playing well at the right time. The Mavs played tight with UW in their games this year so I'm sure we'll get another good game Thursday.

And to add on that, what's remarkable is how this very talented team has only two NHL drafted players on the roster. Only Alaska and Bemidji have fewer. Jutting and Hastings certainly did and have done a great job bringing in lesser known talent. Now that we have a coach that can coach, it's all coming together--just in time for the WCHA to get blown up. Grrrr.

Oh yeah, anything less than 1st next year would be a disappointment.

Poor consolation prize though. Standing-room only crowds against Minnesota or North Dakota will be missed.

Nick Schmidt, defenseman, Minnesota

Listed at 6-foot and 195 pounds, Schmidt has racked up a bunch of points the past two seasons for the Gophers. He's got 31 in 38 games this season as a junior, which is tied for third-most among defenseman in the NCAA. Schmidt had 41 points as a sophomore, and it remains to be seen if he will forego his final year of eligibility. Minnesota should earn one of the top seeds in the NCAA Tournament and be a favorite to reach the Frozen Four in Pittsburgh.
Who thinks the Wild should sign Nick Schmidt from the U of M?

Nick Schmidt...

Me! Would be such as awesome signing.

Now only if we could sign his long lost brother Nate, too.

Oh good one, Wild definitely need to sign NATE, though hope he stays one more year as a Gopher fan.

Hockey's Future did a little write-up on the Montreal Canadiens prospect pool and mentioned a few WCHA guys.

Quote:
Danny Kristo, RW, 22
Acquired: 2nd round, 56th overall in 2008

In his last year at the NCAA level, Kristo has been a man on a mission for UND. He has put up career high offensive numbers, scoring 24 goals (six on the power play, two shorthanded and five game winners) along with 26 assists in 37 games. His overall game has improved over the last few years and his team will need him at his best for their playoff run and hopes for a National Championship.

The knock against Kristo has been his commitment and consistency at the NCAA level but it is more from not been able to replicate his outstanding offensive skill every game. This year, the senior has proven that he can be a leader and carry a team on his back when needed. He was named to the first team of the All-WCHA team for this season.

Kristo is highly likely to sign an NHL entry-level contract at the end of this NCAA season and could get the opportunity to join the Canadiens lineup right out of college. If not, he could help the Bulldogs offensive game at the AHL level.
Quote:
Mark MacMillan, LW, 21
Acquired: 4th round, 113th overall in 2010

In his sophomore season, MacMillan has played a much better two-way game and has improved his overall offensive skills. He collected career high numbers, scoring 13 goals (three on the power play, two shorthanded and one game-winner) along with 12 assists in 39 games. The versatile player has played all three forward positions and is used on both of the North Dakota's specialty team units.

MacMillan will need to step up his game over the UND's playoff run and help push the team to a National Championship. He will probably have two more years of development at the NCAA level to increase his size in order to play his physical game and hone his playmaking skills. He does have the choice to use the free-agent option similar to Bennett after his junior season if he wishes to not play for the Canadiens' organization.
Nice little blurbs about the guys there.

Final Five starts up tomorrow! I can't wait, hopefully those damn flickertails get knocked out so their annoying fans can head back to hicksville hahaha

I'm going to be cheering for Kato tomorrow, then the Gophs after that seeing as my Dogs didn't make it.

My friend and I will be at the games, definitely pulling for Wisconsin and NoDak to go out.

Should be interesting. I'm not quite sure what to expect, especially since the U isn't playing, so we are basically going to root against the above too (though I'd hope Mankato would win since I always go Minnesota teams over non-Minnesota ones.
