Oh, you're one of those "Keep your head up" guys.

Ok, that explains it....as in "Keep you head up, MacDonald" or "Keep your head up, Sawada".....

.....or "Keep your head up, Marc" or "Keep your head up, Patrice" too.....though maybe not so much....

Got it.

Looks like it:

If a player is instigated upon, the fighting major is not included in the player's total number of fights.

Thanks. Really sounds like an awful rule.

A couple of years back, I was at a Tbirds game where Sena Acolatse (loved that kid, and MA folks can see him in Worcester now) got into 3 fights. The third fight was called a double minor roughing on both sides, even though it was an obvious full out fight. I guess they didn't want to eject Acolatse from the game.

Gotta love the Dub.

Which totally sucks.

Fights 16-20 result in a 2 game suspension and the team is fined $1000

Hitting someone with their head down is completely different from hitting someone from behind or blindsiding them.

Yeah, and I have yet to see just about any hit where someone somewhere doesn't try to justify it with "Oh, he had his head down" or "He saw it coming and turned" (see:McQuaid/Chimera).

Doubt anyone said he had his head down. Was an idiotic charge, but McQuaid turning at the last minute was stupid on his part.

Clearly turned.

Either way has nothing to do with catching someone with their head down.

If there is the ten fight rule, players may have to do what Bergeron did there which was absolutely nothing...

Chimera was full of crap and admitted as such afterwards by apologizing.

It's all part of the same nonsense, find anything you can to blame the victim and negate the suspension worthiness of any hit. I've heard it too many times both pro and con for my team and other teams and it's a lot of noise. It's the "She shouldn't have been dressed like that in that part of town" of hockey.

Not sure why, but this confused me for a solid 2 minutes. Then I laughed. Would love for Bergeron go all Josh Gorges on him, but I don't think we would see that again.

The issue with that hit was that he skated from center ice at full speed. A predatory hit, but you can't seriously deny that McQuaid turned his back last second there. If it wasn't a charge that was a legal hit. But, he charged at McQuaid so it was illegal. Still ridiculous to deny that he turned last minute.

Got it.
3 blind sides and a CFB. Great examples...

I'm more talking about guys cutting through the middle and getting creamed. You know, what used to be a good open ice hit, but now makes a lot of noise and needs a suspension.

But ya, great example

Do you know what cutting through the middle is?

That is cutting through the middle with your head down. The ones you posted are blindside hits, they were also both late and neither player had the puck.

Yeah, and if I had a nickel for every "it's his fault, he should have had his head up!" I heard after those hits, I could retire to the Bahamas.

Interference/Charge.

Those things you can't do. Hitting someone with their head down can be done cleanly/legally...for now anyways...

I'm fine with this, so long as they continue to crack down on cheap shots and dangerous hits

I never want to see fighting removed from professional hockey, or limited anymore than it already is

...but let's face it. Fighting doesn't, unfortunately, stop the cooke's and Torres' of the league from doing what they do. Hitting them in them their wallet via hefty suspensions does. Cooke cleaned up his act after he missed 17 games, not after he was cold cocked by Kane or roughed up by Thorty.

I like the argument made in here that the majority of these kids, yes, they are kids - physically tough and matured sure, but still kids - will never end up as pros, so cutting down on how many blows to the head they can take in a season and also likely increasing the time between each fight in the season as they will now have to pick their spots better, will help decrease the likely hood of severe injuries or medical complications later in life - yes, a punch isn't as forceful as a shoulder or elbow, but damn do they still do damage. If you disagree, you should head out and ask a 180+ pound athletic male to grab you by the collar and wind up one into your fact/head. 99% of the posters here would be on the ground spitting up blood and babbling like a 2 year old. Getting punched in the face ****ing sucks, and these kids should focus on their skills and training

Aww but Lou, I said GOON and you said muscle. And how good is that list when it has PK Subban on it...

I'm going to say I think 90 % or more of those guys can play the game of hockey and are not your prototypical GOON. They will not hurt the team when they are on the ice.

Having that stupid cement head on your team for just going out and fighting is done and over with and it should be done and over with in Jr Hockey.

I have no problem with this. Fighters should pick what exactly is worth battling over. I don't enjoy the garbage minutes "lets fight for the sake of fighting".
