Umberger's back in town...

I wonder how he's doing (I see 42 games, 11 goals, 14 assists). Not too good, but the kid did take off a full year and I wonder if he's hit a wall, hit his stride, or what.

From what I heard hes playing pretty good. I know I saw him as rookie of the month I think twice already.

Valiquette's shutout streak is ended at 221 minutes. He gave up the first shot. All well...221 minutes is NOTHING to be ashamed at. Good Job Steve!

1-0 Philly

Should have started Labarbera for this one.

I disagree. Keep the hot goalie in. Plus Pack play 3 games in 3 nights so Jason will be starting tomorrow.

He started slowly (5 games), then played great for about 20-25 games. He then seemed to hit a wall, but as of late he's seemed to have caught his 2nd wind and has been playing better of late.

Ken Gernander apparently left the game early with a concussion.

whenever this team loses, they lose big. Its very strange...almost like the give up once they are down...except for that one game where they battled back from down 4 goals or whatever.

According to today's Courant article, he'll miss today's and tomorrow's games.

I was at the game last night, and they didn't give up, though Valiquette was clearly rattled by that first goal. There were defensive breakdowns on pretty much every goal, and the Phantoms collapsed down low after they got the lead making it hard to get quality scoring chances.

It's not surprising that when they have trouble early in a game they tend to look bad. This is a very young team that is having a lot of success playing a very structured system. When things go wrong they don't have the experience to improvise. Plus, they don't have a lot of scoring capablities and are forced to take chances when they get behind. What counts is that there are very shifts that they take off and when they do, they don't get into the habit.

This is what rebuilding looks like. Some nights it ain't pretty. That's called growing pains. And we're going to see a lot of it, as long as the organization stays the course.

Absolutely agree...this is NOT the Rangers, and I get annoyed at those handful of people who are only too willing to post comments like "yep, they're future Rangers" after they have a loss. I can't recall many of those posts last weekend when they came back from 1-4 down to win the game...or in the 8 shutouts the team's had this year...or for that matter the rest of the wins Hartford has had on the way to the 2nd best record in the league.

I was in the pressbox for the game, and was sitting in front of Schoenfeld. After the Pack scored the first goal, he seemed like he thought it was a done deal and that they would come back. Especially after the 5 minute major. Their PP has been so good this season, that he was sure they were gonna score. They had a lot of trouble keeping the puck in on the PP. Surprisingly, Lundmark was probably the most animated player on the ice.
