PK and the Habs: far from a deal

http://www.rds.ca/canadien/chroniques/345436.html

According to RDS, Habs are offering a two year contract for 5,5 million (total). PK wants a long term contract.

I think Habs should bonify their offer in terms of $$$, but 2 years seem the right length, for the time being.

Ya I would have thought the Habs would offer more $$ than that...

I get the question marks about him and his age, etc.

But I'm going on record as saying they're foolish to not give him both term and money at this point. I'd be offering 5 years, $22 mil as a starting point.

Give him a 6 year deal just like Price and Gorges both got, the guy is only 23 and has been playing top pairing minutes in the toughest hockey market in the league..

5 years would be horrible, it would only take up 1 year of UFA status.

Habs need to up the amount to 3.5-4M and keep the 2 year term.

I'm guessin Subban would want a 4 year term to take him to UFA status, would be dumb of the Habs to do that.

No because he will be UFA after his contract.

Exactly,

Give him a 2 year deal, after that you can give him the 6 year contract.

Habs have done that with pretty much all the players, you get a 2 year deal at our first contract, Eller, DD, Patches, Emelin, Daiz, Weber, Price, all got 2 year deals after their ELC.

If we need cap space, see the Gomez thread for suggestions, Mr. Bergevin.

Gauthier > Bergevin >>>>>> MacGuire.

I'm telling you guys.. He'll settled for something like 10.5M/3years.

Something like, 3M, 3.5M and 4M. I think it's a fair deal for both parties. After the 3 years if he can show to the organization that he deserves a big contract then he will get it.

Like the term but Habs are short on the dollars, Id go $7M on two years for sure. As posted above, then with 2 years of RFA left go for the 6 year contract and eat up 4 UFA years.

That looks fair for both parties. Theres no way you give him a contract to UFA unless its 8 years for 32 mil.

Something tells me Subban will be this season's Doughty and he will either hold out or things will get close to a trade! Remember, Gainey was high on Subban and drafted him, who knows if Bergevin feels the same way about him, if Chicago offers Kane or Winnipeg offers Kane for Subban, I can see Montreal trading Subban because they now see Tinordi, Beaulieu, Ellis, Dietz and Thrower coming up sooner than later.

First, none of our prospect provide what Subban offers, a #1 top pairing D-men.

Beaulieu is nice offensively, but isn't great is his own end, and vice versa for Tinordi, so I don't think none of the guys coming up can really replace Subban.

Also I think it would be really stupid of Subban to want a long term deal like Doughty (8+ years).

I generously on a 8 year deal, Subban would get max 6M. In a couple of years, if Subban play keeps progressing like has the past 2 years, Subban is going to wish he asked for more.

this is the perfect deal for both sides, and if it wasn't for the labour uncertainly, especially the leagues insistence to delay players ability to go UFA after 7 years, I have a feeling it would be a done deal.

This is very similiar to the deal Price signed after his rookie contract expired.

Gainey did wait til the 2nd round to take him, after making two other selections, so yes he liked him, but I won't say he was THAT high on him.

that is exactly what they said about Subban, and his defensive game came around. I suspect Beaulieu defensive game will improve (and by what I have read, it was better this past season).

7 year deal which cuts into his ufa years which will ultimately lower his cap hit during his prime years.

2.5, 3.5, 4, 5, 6, 6, 6. 4.7 million dollar cap hit.

what if subban has an offensive explosion like karlsson? we're going to have to offer him doughty or karlsson money way before his ufa years. take advantage of a year where he was just decent offensively and lock him longterm (which is what he wants) to something that will in the end be MUCH cheaper then giving him multiple short term contracts.

Not saying he won't develop into a great 2 way player, but I think it would be too much to trade Subban away, because you feel that Beaulieu can replace him and do the job that Subban has done as number 1 d-men.

Habs are idiots, just give him the 4-4.5M long term cap hit he deserves.

It's going to go on like that until a few days before training camp, and then in a few hours they'll find a deal and both side will be happy.

As long as some other team don't try anything funny...

I think 2 years at 4 per is going to work I don't think he should get more than 4 as that is way over paying at this point. If he is willing to sign it great if not let Philly float a crazy offer sheet and take the picks.

I got nervous when I saw the PK rejects $5.5M. For 2 years, I think it's great.

If he wants a long term deal, I think he has to earn it. Price took a short term deal and now he got paid bank in his new deal. I always said I saw PK and Price in the same light and that PK should get a similiar deal to what Price got previously.

If I'm Philadelphia I offersheet Subban a five year contract paying 4.6 million dollars a year.

They could get Subban for the bargain price of a 1st and 3rd round draft pick.
