My point is..a #1 draft pick is just that (a draft pick). Until they can prove themselves on the ice, they aren't going to be worth one of the NHL's top-10 dmen.

Not a chance St. Louis does this.

Last time the Blues traded a #1 Dman to the Oilers it didn't work out too well for us.

I don't think the value's really out of whack, but this should be an easy no for St Louis, since they already have what you hope Klefbom might someday become and have no real need for more wingers (with Tarasenko, Schwartz in the pipeline in addition to what they already have on the roster).

Cant say I can blame Blues fans for turning this down, but it will be an interesting thread to bump in a few years.

Words can not describe the travesty...Even if Yakupov becomes a great player, St. Louis still loses the trade, as Pietrangelo is already a top player...Not to mention the hole it leaves on the blueline.

Pietrangelo is phenominal, but I'm not so sure on this one. The addition of Klefbom gives me second thoughts.

I understand franchise defenceman don't grow on trees. I also want to witness Yakupov performing with the Oilers other young guns.

The hole in our lineup that losing Petro makes would be too huge for us to deal with so even if the value is close he is untradeable.

I hope you're missing a sarcasm smiley because that's way to much.

That being said, Blues don't do this.

I am really surprised to see the number of Oiler fans in this thread saying they would not make this trade.

This is a very easy no from the Blues and a very easy yes from the Oilers in the real world where GM's do not overrate players the way fans do on these boards.

Haha, exactly what I was thinking. I guess at least in this case the offer is more than Brewer and Woyrika. LOL, but seriously a big fat no from all Blues fans.

Yes, it is a long shot that Klefbom becomes a better Dman than Pietrangelo. That's mostly because Pietrangelo is by most accounts the best young Dman in the NHL.

I understand that "anything can happen", but I'd expect some astronomical odds before I'd lay money on Klefbom turning into a better Dman than Pietrangelo.

Unchecked hope. It's a byproduct of watching a terrible team for a few years and drinking the koolaid offered by management.

Also: Yakupov is a first overall pick. First overall picks generally turn out to be pretty awesome players. Just saying.

as an oilers fan i would make this trade only because i am not 100% certain how yak will fit in the oilers dressing room and gel with the team also with the russian factor...
the return is solid.. pietrangelo would mesh better with our team since hes a candian.. though in 3 or 4 years klefbom and yak may be putting up more solid numbers this trade puts us into contention in the here and now and would force the hand of management to discard the weak links on our team ala horcoff and khabbi et al, but since it would never happen, i am excited to see klefbom and yak in the oil silks in the near future, and watch the team grow together more naturally.
