Interesting.

What will it take to get Poile to call up someone from Milwaukee to replace Yip the slip?

I wonder also how long Gaustad's gets back. Man, there's a trade I'd like to have back. Question, has he spent as much time on the ice for us as he has on IR?

Personally think Halischuk is the one who should be sent down, not Yip. Both are 4th liners in my eye though.

Both are fringe NHL players at this point, but Halischuk has SOME offensive ability. Yip is probably the most useless player I can think of in recent history with the Predators.

Agreement here too. Heck, both Bork! and Hali had decent hot streaks towards the end of the season, IIRC.

Yip is useless. Hali isn't doing a thing. Then there is clune the goon

I'd much rather have watson, beck, or Latta up

Yip is better suited for a 4th line role. Halischuk still thinks he can be a top six player and plays like it. At least Yip brings some physicality to his game. Halischuk is more useless to me since he hasn't accepted his role.

what the crap do you guy want out of a 4th liner?

Yip has the same number of goals as Kostitsyn.... chew on that for a while if you want to bag on someone

If everyone was healthy a Yip Gaustad Halischuk 4th line would be very reasonable

Halishuk potted 15 goals last season on the 4th line.

So did Adam Hall. Difference is Hall accepted his role as a 4th liner, and brought size and grit to his game.

Halischuk brings a minuscule amount of offensive skill, and that's about it. He's a scoring line or bust type of player to me.

I'm a big fan of Hali's but I have to agree with your assessment. I do however think he can play the 4th line role though. Usually his work ethic gets him to alot of loose pucks, not so much right now. His offense comes in waves.

I actually really like Yipper as a 4th liner.

Halischuk needs to start playing like Hornqvist.

I just don't think Yip is a NHL player period. He is a grinder on an AHL team.

Yip bumped Tootoo from the lineup last year because he was strong getting pucks out of the defensive zone. He battles hard and uses his body to separate opponents from the puck. Trotz and Poile wanted him in their system long before he was waived by the Avs. He's a workman like grinder, not a scorer. Evidently he excels doing the "details" that the coaching staff believe is important. He's not going anywhere as long as his game stays the same.

i remember a year ago when everyone was fluffing Halischuk so hard. How he has been in the dog house blah blah blah. Now everyone wants to throw him under the bus. Hali hasnt been given any good chances, not that he has deserved them, but he is a 3rd liner at best. People have WAY to high of expectations for him. He is still really young, and needs playing time. I would like to see him sent down to MIL for a little so he can play valuable developmental minutes.

And Ortmeyer sucked too.

Yip is not playing as well as he did in the playoffs last season.

I know. My point was we have had WAY worse people employ our bottom line, Yip is the least of our worries.

True, Yip has definitely slowed down since the beginning of the season. Clune has taken over the spot of nobody grinder playing above his head

Yip's spot needs to be upgraded, we don't have enough talent to waste a spot on him.

Our bottom talent is the issue, it's the guys at the top. By replacing the guys at the top, we effectively replace Yip but guys like Yip, Spaling, Gaustad and the like are the least of our problems.

What we need to do is to develop the young players like Wilson and Smith into guys that can put the puck in the back of the net. Take the lumps you're going to get with them defensively but teach them the game and let them be what they are, gifted offensive players. Focusing so much on the defensive side takes them longer to develop. If they mess up, put them back on the ice to learn from their mistake. Heck, I watch Gill and Hannan who are vets and they put the puck in places you're not supposed to put them but they are out shift after shift. The same rules don't and have never applied to the youth of the roster.

Put Smith at one center position, Wilson at the other and there are your top two centers. Put Spaling at the three and you have your centers for the next how ever many years you want. Put Gaustad on the 4th line for now and then give all of these guys wings. Develop the team for the future instead of this roller coaster.

All teams have leaders but put the youth in important rolls, I think we'd be pleasantly surprised with the results.

The Predators have now played 21 games.

In that span, they have...FOUR REGULATION WINS.

Four.
