8 points in 7 games is good. Would like more goals.

If anyone is going to be up in another 3 1/2 hours, MMG will be playing Amur Khabarovsk at 4am EST. Crazy time right? Khabarovsk is 19mi/30k from the Chinese border per Wikipedia.

Pretty nice goal by Cal O'Reilly, did anybody see who got the assist, because it was a sick pass.

well that was a crazy goal by Geno

He was close scoring a similar one in their last road game when they were down 2-1 with 8 minutes left. That time the goalie saved his good backhander.

That goal just pisses me off more that there's no NHL hockey being played atm.

You can tell that's Gonchar right away because of the area pass he gives Malkin. Seen that before.

Its my understanding that Malkin is playing on the PK over there. Thats just so confusing to me because I thought the only players allowed on the PK were guys in the bottom 6, or guys with next to no offensive creativity. At least certainly not superstar players.

He is playing on the PK. He struggled with it a bit at first, but has gotten better. Overall, Maurice has been requiring a much more defensive minded game from Malkin than he plays with the Pens. He's even benched him once for a period because he didn't like the way he was playing. Between that and shaking off the rust, he's having a slow start. He's still a PPG player, though.

He's also taking most of the faceoffs. He's had a couple of bad games, but he's still over the 50% mark. Malkin and Gonchar are seeing the most ice time, and Geno is the only forward getting more than 20 minutes a game.

It will be interesting to see how Bylsma uses him once the NHL starts playing again. I really hope that happens soon.

Thanks for the update, how has Gonchar looked?

The first couple of games were not too impressive, but he's shaken off the rust. He's playing a lot of minutes ... last game his TOI was 25 minutes. He was a little slow at first, but his speed has improved. Overall, he's looking good I think, not perfect but good ... and of course he's still money on the PP. Speaking of, he scored his first goal of the season last game ...
