Amnesty Buyouts

Say that a new CBA deal is struck soon and each team gets an Amnesty buyout to use. We could potentially see a bit of players being bought out and put out on the free market then as UFAs (some will not be back though). Any comments on the below list or who you might wanna pursue ( if we have cap$pace left) to add that final piece?

Anaheim Ducks: Andrew Cogliano
Boston Bruins: Tim Thomas
Buffalo Sabres: Ville Leino
Calgary Flames: Matt Stajan
Carolina Hurricanes: Joni Pitkanen
Chicago Blackhawks: Johnny Oduya
Colorado Avalanche: Milan Hejduk
Columbus Blue Jackets, James Wisniewski
Dallas Stars: Brendan Morrow
Detroit Red Wings: Todd Bertuzzi
Edmonton Oilers: Shawn Horcoff
Florida Panthers: Ed Jovanovski
Los Angeles Kings: Jarret Stoll
Minnesota Wild: Dany Heatley
Montreal Canadiens: Scott Gomez
Nashville Predators: Sergei Kostitsyn
New Jersey Devils: Henrik Tallinder
New York Islanders: Rick DiPietro
New York Rangers: Wade Redden
Ottawa Senators: Sergei Gonchar
Philadelphia Flyers: Ilya Bryzgalov
Pittsburgh Penguins: Paul Martin
San Jose Sharks: Martin Havlat
St. Louis Blues: Andy McDonald
Tampa Bay Lightning: Vincent Lecavalier
Toronto Maple Leafs: Mike Komisarek
Vancouver Canucks: Keith Ballard
Washington Capitals: Joel Ward
Winnipeg Jets: Nik Antropov

How about if the bought out players were to start a brand new team with Mr Blackburry in Ontario. now That would be something...

The flyers aren't going to buyout bryz. If we did, our starter would be Michael Leighton and our backup would be Niko hovinen. That's not smart.

sign Vinny L to a cheap-ass contract.

Vinny + BRich + Torts = Cup

it's simple

I doubt we're buying out Cogs. He was our best penalty killer last year. We're also sort of thin at left wing.

I'd take Lecavalier for a cheaper contract than he has now.

was thinking the same thing.

Would you consider buying out Pronger?

As for the rest of the list

Additionally, I do not see the following guys getting bought out.

Pitkanen
Wisniewski
Heatley
Havlat
Lecavalier

I would take quite a few of those players on the Rangers if they had new contracts, however, even with a Redden buyout, I doubt the Rangers would be able to pick up anyone of substance.

Unless the new CBA implements the rule that AHL contracts apply towards the cap, a Redden buyout wouldn't have any effect on the Rangers cap situation...except perhaps for clearing more space during the summer cap. But as you say, I'm not sure how it would allow the team to add additional contracts.

Isn't the cap going to be really, really tight, or maybe even impossible to fit under with Gaborik, Richards and Nash? If it were possible, I'd do whatever necessary to keep those three before I even thought about adding a new piece.

I don't think the Sabres would buy-out Leino to be honest. If they did, boy I wouldn't mind bringing him in here. Richards - Stepan - Leino - Boyle down the middle? Sign me up.

Leino is a pretty terrible center, IMO.

Some of these guys were signed, like yesterday.

Vinny L to the Rangers to play with his buddy Brad Richards.

Although I think the Bolts would rather buyout Mattias Ohlund.

If we can buyout Redden, it wouldn't necessary be thight at all for us THIS SEASON. But next year, or the year after that it will be more difficult.

LeCav 1 y 3.5m?

Nash-Richards-Pyatt
Hagelin-LeCavalier-Callahan
Kreider-Stepan-Gaborik
Asham-Boyle-Rupp

Decent depth...

PP1:
Nash-LeCavalier-Cally
Del Z-Richards

Bolts would be dumb to buyout Vinny L... imagine Vinny L gets bought out but has more value than Scott Gomez did and look at what his return was. I bet Bolts trade Vinny L than buy him out..

players in bold, id consider.

Keith Ballard, would add some toughness and can beat the crap out of Crosby..

Andrew Cogliano. still young, worth taking a chance on. can be a 3rd liner...

Joni Pitkanen. was always a fan of his.. solid top 4 dman but gets hurt every now and then.

Vinny Lecavalier. teams would be after him.. he would help and has some good friends here that has had chemistry with..

these are the ones that would fit the best and would most likely succeed. i cant see the Avs buyout Hejduk.. he played his career there. i feel he will retire before they buy him out...Hejduk had a horrible year..i would not mind him if this was 2002.. i feel he would break down here...yikes 37 pts in 81 games last year...

Honestly, I don't think we'd buy anybody out. Pronger is on LTIR and is being paid from the Insurance company.

Hey guys & gals .
I was not saying that all these players would be bought out. Was just putting the most likely - imo - candidate for an eventual buyout on each team.
I do however believe there might be up to new 10 players available as UFAs after an amnesty buyout session took place. And that could be a good thing for the Rangers depending on a bunch of intangibles. But it seems that it is all moot as the league and the players do not seem to want to have a season anyways...

Assuming they have amnesty buyouts, unless it's a definite that burying players in the minors is no longer allowed, then I'll use it on him.

If you can still bury players, then I might want it used on Rupp. I know his $1.5MM isn't much, but he's a complete dead-weight on the team.

It would make more sense to buy out Redden, and send Rupp down. It wouldn't impact the team, but would save Dolan $$$. Plus, who knows, someone might actually pick up Rupp - especially if you waited into the season and a few teams had some serious injuries. He's a warm body after all.

Yeah, that'd be nice but I still stick with what I said before. The first concern should be trying to keep Gaborik/Richards/Nash for as long as possible without losing anyone else that is really key to the team. Obviously, they won't be able to hold onto those 3, and Hank and keep all of Girardi/McD/Staal assuming they all keep playing like #1s, but this team's window is here as they are. I'd focus on keeping it open for as long as possible before I worried about adding anyone for any reason.
