I'll be let down if this storm doesn't put Pittsburgh under water by the way everyone is acting.

High winds?

Heavy rain?

When did I move to Pittsburgh?

Areas around me have started losing power and it is supposed to intensify for a few more hours still.

Not that I don't take storms, hurricanes or other natural disasters seriously, but ...

speaking of sandy bears, i watched this movie hoping it would be a gritty, atmospheric, doom-laden survivalist western:

turned out to be a kids movie. still, it was plenty fun.

edit: yes i know IMDB and wiki exist, i was just too lazy to look it up before i started watching.

I hope I wake up tomorrow and all these leaves are blown into my neighbors yard. That'd be awesome.

Kansas may only make the news for wanting to keep creationism in schools, the Westboro Baptist Church, or serial killers (BTK), but at least we are safe from Hurricanes. This **** is nuts.

I hope everyone out there is safe.

It's amazing how this storm has affected so many. I live in Cleveland and thousands are without power and the wind has been pretty nuts along the lake. My glasses literally flew off my face walking into work this morning.

I can't even imagine how bad it is in NYC. The NYSE is closed for the second straight day due to weather and the head of the transit authority said it's the worst disaster related to the subway system in it's 108 year history. Just crazy stuff.

I'm convinced that the sole purpose of news programming in Pittsburgh is to scare old people.

And there's no denying they did a damn good job of doing that with this whole recent storm b.s. I would be willing to bet that their ratings and website traffic were off the charts.

Folks were acting like it was armagedden when in reality it was no different than a slight rain storm.

Just goes to show how this country is so media-dominated that some folks lose touch with reality. The perception of this storm (at least in western PA) was much different than reality.

Fear and greed are two of the raw emotions that can drive various actions - there's no doubt that the media has a knack for exploiting those emotions all in a quest for ratings and advertising revenue.

That's how it is everywhere in this country. Scaring people gets them to watch the news. Saying 'nothing at all important is happening right now' doesn't.

Yep - it's just a reminder of how unintelligent the average person is.. crazy how the media can get folks in a fervor over essentially nothing. I guess the main takeaway is that it's easy to exploit stupid people.

I agree that it was blown out of proportion (as usual) this far inland. People probably should have realized that the worst that would likely happen would be some snow and sporadic power outages.

But let's not downplay the severity of the storm on the coast. It definitely caused some pretty severe havoc. Have you seen pictures of NYC and Atlantic City?

Yeah there's no doubt that the storm freaked havok on Atlantic City and parts of NYC, but my comments were specifically in regards to the storm's impact on western PA.

Turns out that the impact was minimal and that everyone got worried for no reason. I work in downtown and I was able to get into work fine both yesterday and today. People are wimps these days if they want to freak out over a slight windy drizzle.

I had a limb laying across my driveway this morning...pretty intense stuff.

Good news is, Charmin made a killing yesterday in Pittsburgh.

My parents have **** luck. Only tree in the area that went down happened to be in their front yard and against their bedroom window.

Hm, maybe I haven't paid attention to local media here, but I didn't think anyone expected crazy weather in Western PA/Northeast Ohio. To us it was a pretty heavy rain/wind storm with high winds and flooding but nothing that doesn't happen from time to time. My comment above was just my amazement at how storms can have affect people hundreds of miles from the coast. Many in Cleveland are still without power, which again isn't a big deal in itself. I just wasn't expecting any kind of impact so it caught me a bit by surprise.

However, in NYC and other areas, this storm has been devastating. 30 confirmed dead in the US already. That's some pretty terrible stuff.
