How is Garrison already injured?

Seems like we go after players who have been reasonably healthy throughout there NHL careers and when they play for us they start falling apart.

Also op instead of just headshaking how about you post some info on it?

Quote:
Why are Alex Edler and Jason Garrison not practising with locked-out Canucks?

Kevin Bieksa says 'unhealthy' players will help coach charity game on Oct. 17

Vancouver Canuck defencemen Alex Edler and Jason Garrison have been conspicuous by their absence at UBC while their locked-out teammates continue to skate three times a week in player-directed practices.

Could it be they are not locked out because of injury, and still on the payroll, like rehabbing centre Ryan Kesler? No one connected with the Canucks or the players involved would comment Tuesday, or could be reached for comment, but Kevin Bieksa admitted earlier Tuesday that Edler and Garrison were “unhealthy.”

Bieksa accidentally spilled the beans when asked whether he would have guest coaches for his charity game Oct. 17 against the UBC Thunderbirds.

“Some of my friends who are unhealthy right now — Kes, Eagle (Edler) and Garrison — said they’d be on the bench for us,” Bieksa replied. “They said they’ll be here regardless.”

Before the lockout, Edler and Garrison were both skating regularly at UBC with a group of Vancouver-based Canucks and Canuck farmhands. They would have to be diagnosed as “injured” and “unfit to play” by Canuck medical personnel to collect their paycheques. In that event, they would also be obliged to report to Rogers Arena for treatment and team supervised activities as Kesler is doing. They would also not be permitted to skate with the locked-out players.

It’s believed neither is seriously hurt. According to Bieksa, Edler attended the B.C. Lions game Saturday at BC Place Stadium and, following the Lions’ 27-22 victory over Calgary, Edler kicked a 30-yard field goal “without breaking a sweat.” Garrison has reportedly been skating on his own in Richmond.

Edler is in the final year of a contract that pays him $3.25 million while Garrison signed a six-year deal with the Canucks on July 1 for $27.6 million. Garrison’s contract also called for a $3.5 million signing bonus.

Also since when is "unhealthy" automatically injured? I mean it is Flu season

Meh.. I saw Edler on Saturday night after the Lion's game, he didn't look like he had the flu. At the time, I didn't recognize one of the guys who was with him but now I think it was Jason Garrison (who also didn't seem sick). He has a thick beard right now and he was wearing a hat so didn't recognize him.

Probably just a sinus that's being passed around and it's being called an injury.

It could even be bruised bones from pucks that they don't feel like playing with.

I don't know, maybe Garrison is doing something other than playing hockey? Salo got his achilles destroyed playing floorball or whatever, the players have lives outside of ice hockey you know

Who would've thought picking up a cracker could be so dangerous?

Vancouver is cursed or something. Every player that comes here gets hit by the injury bug.

This article speculates it might be Edlers finger ...... still. He broke it in the SCF ---- a long long time ago. Not sure why they didn't surgery it up considering they got ousted in the 1st round.

Maybe we don't want the season to start soon?

The hockey Gods realized with no season, they have no Canucks' defensemen to injury. They were having none of that noise.

They're probably milking some small injury that wouldn't have kept them out if there was a real season. If they're injured, they get paid.

didn't they have to be injured before the cba expired? I don't think you can just go, "oh, I'm injured now a month into the lockout...pay me my monies."

Who says they weren't?

We're going on hearsay and speculation to even conclude these guys are properly injured (ie. they don't have the sniffles or something), once we're into that territory it's open season on further speculation.

I think there is a quote in the Sun saying that if they were injured, and were being paid their salary they would not be able to participate in the extra-curriculars with the other non-injured Nucks. They would have to check into GM Place to practice/rehab, which by pictures, they certainly haven't been doing.

So we can conclude that they were not injured before the CBA expired. Either way, you're right, the rest is all conjecture. They are probably fine.

The only reason this should concern you is if you actually think the Season is going to start anytime soon.

i think you read that wrong.

the sun article stated that as soon as the CBA ended, edler and garrison immediately stopped practicing with their teammates and started independently working out (edler with canucks staff, garrison in richmond).

the implication being that both guys were hampering ailments (rumour on edler is that he has one finger which still hasn't healed) that were pre-existing hockey-related injuries. if garrison hurt himself tossing kegs over the burrard street bridge, that's not a workplace-related injury and he wouldn't be able to still be paid during the lockout.

Ugghhh! Edler with back disc injury. Garrison with groin injury. So much for 'small' injuries. Here's Gillis trying to downplay it on team 1040 today:

Brutal. I guess this means the Canucks playing style has nothing to do with Dman injuries. They are just cursed...
