His shooting is better than his passing. But he's darn good at passing, too.

This.

Except for transplanted St. Louis-area folks (like myself), I don't know anyone outside of Missouri and Illinois (south of Peoria) who knows diddly-squat about the Blues.

A for me. In the back of my head, I was hoping he would be an immediate contributor, but I didn't think it would actually happen. I have been pleasantly surprised.

He's been named rookie of the month for January. 9 points in 5 games, he's been much better immediately than I thought he would

The best offensive rookie in the NHL tied with Conacher I think. Tarasenko got more goals so it's Tarasenko this time. The Calder race will be very interesting to follow this year !

Tied for goals, Conacher has more points and a better +/-.

Kind of confused as to how the rookie of the month went to Tarasenko... Glad he got acknowledged though.

Conacher's points that put him above Tarasenko came at the first of this month.

Nope. From NHL.com article :

Quote:
St. Louis Blues right wing Vladimir Tarasenko, who led all rookies in scoring with nine points (five goals, four assists) in seven games, has been named the NHL Rookie of the Month for January.

Tarasenko edged Tampa Bay Lightning center Cory Conacher (3-6--9 in six games), Edmonton Oilers center Nail Yakupov (4-1--5 in seven games), Oilers defenseman Justin Schultz (2-3--5 in seven games) and Montreal Canadiens center Alex Galchenyuk (1-4--5 in six games).

I believe Conacher also had 6 of his first 8 games at home. That Tampa team played well at home last year too...On the road? A whopping 13 wins.

Did anybody watch NHL network last night? Melrose did a rookie power rankings (top 3) and Frank wasn't even on the list. I know it's cool to go against the grain and all but Come On Man!

1Conachar
2Shultz
3Montreal forward (real long name that I'm not attempting to spell)

Yeah I saw that. Melrose thinks Tarasenko was the best and he actually predicts the blues are gonna win the cup this year he just did that to mess with chaser. It's Alex Galchenyuk that was picked as #3

That prediction is interesting as we have an elite goalie, talented forwards, a super solid D for now and a 30G20A rookie in the team. Hoping for the Cup wouldn't be exaggerating I think. And don't forget that we are now the last team where Gretzky played without any Stanley Cup, so maybe this year!

We dont have an elite goalie, Halak is really good but not anywhere near elite. The only elite goalies in my eyes are Hank, Quick, and Rinne

I disagree. Halak has almost the same GAA and %sv as Quick & Rinne. Hank was the best goalie last year, no doubt but I really consider Halak as a top 5 goalie in the NHL. If he's not elite, he's very close at least.

He might be close to them right now but I dont expect it to be the same at the end of the season, we will just have to agree to disagree here. And im not knocking Halak, i think he is great

Is Jaro elite? The only right answer to that is that we don't know yet. He has a career .924 save% in the playoffs, and what he does there will shape our views on him. Sadly we didn't get to see that last season, we will this season.

His numbers will probably end the regular season around the League leaders, assuming we sort our defense out, but numbers don't tell the whole story otherwise we would be talking about Elliott here as well.

If Halįk can stand on his head for us in the playoffs, like he done for the Canadiens, then I'd struggle not to put him in the elite category.

I can't believe anyone sees Halak as elite. He has his stretches, but he is inconsistent and not elite, or even close, really.

Yeah, I think he is in the second or third tier of goaltenders, very good, but lacking exceptional traits. Injury concerns and average endurance hurt him too, at least in my opinion.

Hes my guy in the playoffs though, as little stock as I put into a player being "clutch", Jaro certainly has shown that he can stand on his head for stretches.
