A question for all: Where do Kevin Shattenkirk and Chris Summers end up overall-wise? Right now in season 3 I have Shattenkirk at 87 and Summers at 85. Are they pretty much done or will they get better?

On gm connected, did the 2013 draft change with the updated roster? I'm wondering if klimchuck is still a beast, because I scouted the crap out of him and it's only showing 4 white stars.

I believe that they don't get any better than that, they may drop a point one season and go back up the next but thats it.

Anyone know what Sven bartschi becomes? And how many seasons does he take to become that overall. This is in gm mode

he can become pretty amazing actually. I have seen him at 89 by the 4th or 5th season.

Huberdeau becomes an 84 or 85 after first season, 89 after the 2nd season most of the time.

Now that Brunner is at 79 overall, what does he usually grow to be?

Anyone know how Seth Jones ends up? I drafted him 3rd overall and he was a 78 with 5 potential.

You must have messed something up, he's 79 ovr with 4.5 stars.

Whats a way to play Be a GM so that its actually a challenge? I gave myself a garbage team of 30+ 70 overalls and no prospects. 2 seasons laters and i got the best team in the league... no fun.

Turn off the salary cap. Budget yourself to at most 24 million for the entire franchise.

Its on the highest difficulty but does difficulty matter for simming?

Or you could do what I did in my last NHL 12 BeAGM. When you go to resign players in the offseason, multiply their asking price by the ratio of the salary cap to the salary floor. This number usually hovers around 1.6. Essentially I found the main reason I always end up with stacked teams was because it's too easy to fit players under the cap because they never seem to ask too much money. Suddenly your $1.5m 4th liner is now asking for $2.4m, your up and coming young star who would normally ask for $5m is asking for $8m etc. Eventually throughout your lineup, those numbers add up, and it forces you to ice real scrubs instead of players with a lot of offensive talent.

putting a player in a defensive roll = regress everytime

Bottom pair DFD and 3rd/4th line checkers always regress for me.

Same here.

Unless the player has good enough potential to overcome a limited role (like 4 or 4.5 stars), it seems to always hurt their development. I'm like 4 years into a file with the Leafs and it's happened to pretty much every young player I've played on the 3rd line. Frattin, Rakhshani, Brock Nelson, JT Miller, Kadri, etc with the exception of 2013 draftee Nikita Zadorov. Made a small jump from 78 to 80 after a year on the bottom pair.

Hey guys, I have two questions:

1. How does the development work? Can a 17-years-old with a rating of 53 get as good as a 17-years-old with 60 after full development, both having exactly the same potential?
2. What is better, a yellow 4.5 or a green 4?

Thanks for answering!

I wish I would of read/found this thread before I bought 13. I had 12 and it cracked finally due to extensive be a GM campaigns... Cant say I am having much luck with the BAGM on 13 as of yet. about 9-10 years in and have only made the playoffs twice and have a really well rounded team. OH well will just have to keep trying.

would of bought 12 again with this crappy player development in 13

Would players develop better if left in the ahl or nhl? I have Sven baertschi (68 ovr) playing on my second line in the NHL with duchene and iginla.... While Emerson etem (66 ovr) playing on my second line in the ahl

The 53 can become better than the 60.
4.5 Yellow. I dont find green stars to make much difference.

Try changing up your coaching strategy. Player development adds a little randomness, I find. Either they break out at 18-20 or 24-26.

I Find non-nhl players develop really good in the NHL. Bump Etem to the AHL 1st line if you can.

For player development, my general rule of thumb is this:

Start them in the AHL when they are 65+
Give them NHL time when they are 70+
Full time NHLers at 75+. If you have a player with offensive potential, make sure to give them plenty of powerplay time.
