The same top 5 as around a week ago (slightly different order).

The gap to the next team is almost exactly the same as the gap between 1 and 5 (Grand Rapids Griffins on 64.3%) Are these 5 pulling away?
The Monsters and Marlies are one point out of the Tigers, I wouldn't say they're pulling away.

Syracuse is dominating opponents, top-3 team in the league for sure, arguably the best

Easily the best player on the ice in the three games I've seen live this year. I said it on the Islanders board but he's a Jordan Staal clone. Not poor man's, he is Jordan Staal.

OKC's defense hasn't been quite as much of a ****show as it was to start the year and the PK is starting to improve. The Barons play their next 7 on the road starting on Wednesday and have a list of walking wounded 6 deep at the moment. IMO this stretch will tell us a lot about them as a team.

Whats going on with OKC? Not trying to bash them or anything, but with all that NHL level talent youd surely be expecting more. There is obviously an explination im just curious as to what it is.

As a side note, anyone know which teams have the least number of NHLers?

Texas has none. Some may want to count Barker and Peterson.. but Barker was a PTO after no team gave him a NHL contract and Peterson was signed to a 2 way deal with intentions of playing in Texas this season.

Hamilton doesn't have any with Leblanc and Geoffrion out and even they weren't established NHLers. Our team has a ton of rookies this year.

OKC under performing no question. Was expecting a bit more out of the demi gods. Team 1260 in Edm will make you believe they have the championship on lockdown.

IMO it's a number of things:

Eberle started the season slowly (like he did last years as well).

The defense was Godawful the first 10-12 games, Alex Plante who was an AHL allstar last year looked like he'd have a hard time with ECHL competition as did Dan Ringwald on D.

The goaltending was not up to snuff.

The Penalty kill was a horror movie (they are still dead last in the league in this area although they have been much better over the last 4 games or so).

Rookies on the blueline had their fair share of brain farts, Fedun (who missed all of last season) had to start finding his way, Marincin albeit very good has had his share of brain farts as well. Davidson had some very poor games as well prior to playing a very good game in his last game before starting cancer treatment.

A lack of secondary scoring, with so many bodies down in OKC (basically a whole line and probably one of Hartikainen/Paajarvi) in the mix up front there were a lot of guys going in and out of the lineup which didn't give lines a chance to build chemistry. We also lost our captain and one of our teams leading scorers last year Josh Green very early in the year and he's still out. Currently we have 6 injured players including some regulars.

Basically it was a lot of things which created a perfect storm and had the team struggling to stay at .500. However it's starting to look like we'll have a solid 2nd line going forward in Paajarvi-Lander-Hartikainen and we've added a veteran D to help settle things down. IMO things are starting to look up again but the proof will be in this 7 game road trip IMO.

OKC has been pretty bad 5-on-5.
Their penalty killing is horrendously terrible.
They lack secondary scoring.
Their goaltending has been so-so.
The bottom half of the defense sucks (Plante and Teubert included).
They lost their captain early in the year, injuries are starting to rack up.

Albany Devils, but they're still in last in the Conference. Adam Henrique, and Adam Larsson, and Jacob Josefson who hasn't really hit it big in the NHL yet due to several injuries, but is their best player up there right now. They've been playing much better lately, but the difference in them being over 500, and under 500 is unlike the NHL Devils they can't win a damn shootout!

Their PP has finally woke up though after being 0 for 33.

OKC got a mentality shift this season. Last season they played a blue collar game and got scoring for 4 lines.

This season they got 4 dynamic players. Those players are 1-2-3 in AHL scoring but OKC isnt getting scoring from bottom 6. Also the defenseman has 3 rookies, plus Plante sucks. Tuebert hasnt been bad I dunno how people come to that conclusion.

The team isnt in trouble by any means. Just havent dominated.

Lack of secondary scoring and a young and inexperienced D. The NHL players are playing as expected; they're not the problem.

Just to put in some numbers: Three of the players we were counting on for depth scoring, Tyler Pitlick, Magnus Paajarvi and Curtis Hamilton, have a combined 13 points in 40 games, and 9 of those points are Paajarvi's. The only real secondary scoring we've had is from Paajarvi and Arcobello and Hartikainen. Problem is, when (if) the league starts up, Hartikainen and likely Paajarvi are going up to the Oilers, leaving little scoring behind.

The D is even worse. Schultz aside, the only decent defencemen we've had are Marincin and Fedun. Plus, all three are first year pros. Veteran guys like Teubert, Plante and Ringwald have been worse than bad.

Now the Dogs can't even kill a penalty.

We've got pretty much nothing going for us.

We outshot them 46-19 and still lost. We really need Leblanc and Geoffrion back ASAP.

Their big three are bored out off their skulls. Eberle and hall have been first line NHL players for most if their two seasons. Nugent-Hopkins was close to a PPG player as an 18 year old.

They don't belong in the AHL. Getzlaf went through this during the last lockout when he came back to the hitmen. There was no reason that team shouldn't have challenged London for the memorial cup, but getzlaf was disinterested all year.

You can argue that they should be using this time better and you'd be right, but I just think there's no way any of these guys want to do ANYTHING but get out the AHL without sustaining a serious injury a la Jeff Cowen.

On the flip side, Abbotsford has a bunch of players who were fringe/cup of coffee/maybe had a shot at a bottom six role players + Sven Baertschi. They have more to prove. The oilers big three are already first line NHL players.

The questions about the okc make me wonder if the oilers go anywhere. Dont you need quality defensive depth to succeed?

Schultz and Marincin have looked excellent for rookies, and Smid and Petry are playing somewhere else. Not sure what happened to Nick Schultz, and Klefbom is in Sweden. Just because our offense is all in OKC, doesnt mean our defense is too.

Well what about team defense. I thought okc had a bunch of oilers future 3rd line defensive forwards

Paajarvi, Lander, Hartikainen, and Pitlick. All of which have looked good and had good puck possession, but they are having a hard time getting on the scoreboard (minus Harti)
