Montl.Pits proposal

To Mtl: R. Malone
B. Orpik

T Pits: R. Zednick
N. Sundstrom
R. Hainsey

Pits. gets fast D. player in Sunny, a scorer in Zedy and a pretty good D. prospect in Hainsey

Mtl. gets a good scorer to replace Zedy and a huge Def. that can play hard...

Maybe one of these teams gets boned....u decide.

Those are two of the last players on Pittsburgh I'd be looking to trade. Those players would be handy, but not at the expense of Malone and Orpik. No deal from the Pens perspective.

I'd do it, although I'm hesitant to trade Zednik only because the Habs literally have no scorers at all aside from him.

Not a chance in hell. You wouldn't even get one of those guys for that package. Zednik is a year away from being a UFA(and depending on how the CBA shakes out he could be one after this year) Sundstrom is decent but not spectacular in any area. And as every day passes, Hainsey looks more and more like a bust.

Pitt gets shafted here valuewise. Add to that Malone is a local boy and a fan favorite and you'll never see this deal happen.

malone and orpik are core players of the future pens(along with fleury and malkin), and right now relatively cheap. definitely no deal from the pens side.

Zednik is inked long term for the Habs.

I thought the deal was just for Orpik at first...I still thought 'No'.

Komisarek would have to be included in a package for Orpik to be moved.

So obviously, this proposal isn't very likely.

No way Pittsburgh even thinks about doing this. There's no reason to bust up that solid core of young players that really came along at the end of last season.

Even if you swap Hainsey with Komisarek, there is still no deal.

Hell no, Orpik is going to be a future captain of this franchise and Malone is a hometown boy who scored 20+ goals his first year in the NHL on a bad team, i can't wait to see how he does his 2nd year (whenever the hell that happens).

NO THANKS.

Orpik and Malone are core players for the pens, and are currently cheap. Orpik and Malone are our future assisant captain and captain.

Pittsburgh is undergoing a youth movement, and they trade their two most successful young players so far? It doesn't matter who they are for, it doesn't make sense.

About the only trade I could see happening between these two teams is one of vets with no future left with their teams... like a Dykhuis for Eastwood move or something.

Zednik is signed for the next 3 years... Then he's a UFA. Sunny for 2, then he's a UFA. In that time, Pittsburgh will not get over the mountain and win a championship. Might as well still have Malone and Orpik in two years with a more successful team built around them than a marginal short term benefit in that time period.

I'm not even sure there is a short-term benifit, since I'd rather have Malone in the lineup than Zednik. Zednik will probably score a bit more, but Malone bring other assets to the ice. And, I'd far rather have Orpik in the lineup next season than Sundstrom and Hainsey (who, btw, I do NOT think will be a bust).

If you think this trade is fair you must be a Habs homer. Montreal is getting their trade of the quarter-century in this one.

Let me start by saying it's obvious the Pens wouldn't make this deal given the current focus of their franchise. But I have to get in a couple of jabs based on some of the replies.

Talk about getting ahead of yourself. I love these types of posts, where some sort of greatness is foisted on relatively unproven talents

Exactly what would those assets be? Do tell Oh let me guess, you think Zednik is a soft finesse Euro and Malone is a tough NA. People on this board have absolutely no clue as to what type of player Zednik is. None.

WhoTF gives a crap who's worse? Those posts have no credibility regardless who posts them. My other favourite is the one where people think a player being a fan favourite would require an excessive return from other teams.

unproven or not these guys are the future of our club, and if you would pay more attention to the pens, you would know that orpik is shaping up to be a very good captain. Alot of the vets last season, Buchberger and Bergevin have gone on record to say, he could have been the captain last season and both see Orpik with the C down the road.

Now, who is getting "ahead of themself." Goodness, Joe, you can sometimes be a tad paranoid. Exactly where did I say that 1) Zednik was soft, 2) Malone was tougher? I think Zednik is fairly gritty for that type of player. However, Malone is slightly bigger (weighs about 15 pounds more), initiates a bit more, and most importantly, has shown great chemistry in Pitt. I think he fits in well in Pitt and its not clear to me that Zednik would.

I think a lot of us have seen Zednik well enough to know exactly what kind of player here is or is not. So, don't start with the "poor mistreated" Hab fan thing again.

Orpik WILL wear the C. Maybe you should stick to commenting on players you have some knowledge of.
