Sam Steel?

Really? He sounds perfect for the NHL based on his name. Also, by default thanks to Joshua Jackson and the Mighty Ducks movies, any kid drafted with the name Charlie automatically should get you 7/10 minimum on your list.

Sounds like a boxer or a nascar racer name to me. Not much credible for a hockey name. I still gave him a 5/10 which isn't that bad.

The only two guys for the blues in the last 4 threads (the three old ones and this years') were both given a 2/10. The first one has gone on to be one of the best players on the team at 20 years old. Hopefully this years works out the same

Edit: I'm totally dumb and didn't read the title all the way

Jake Bean should be 0/10, only successful if drafted by Boston.

Best name in the draft, Mikhail Sergachev. Sounds like one of those dudes that played 20 years for the Red Army and scored so many goals they lost count.

Ah, "based on their names". Missed that at first, and my head was reeling for a bit

I like your idea but I think your rankings are historically awful. Like you have the opposite idea of a good name than I do. Jake Bean, Dante Fabbro, Riley Tuffe, Sam Steel, and German Rubtsov are elite names. I bet you think Kale Clague sucks too, and Rasmus Asplund sucks, right?

Shame.

Kale Clague would be around 1/10

Rasmus Asplund 2/10

I think you like the names, you find them cool. I do too. But they aren't hockey names.

I don't think this will be interesting to anyone, but Chris Summers is my inspiration for these threads.

I share the same first name and was genuinely surprised months back when he started getting hype that a Finn had that name. Maybe a Finnish poster can clarify for me but that can't be a common name in that country?

It was a trendy name in the 90's and still remains pretty popular. Before the 60's it was extremely uncommon.

https://verkkopalvelu.vrk.fi/Nimipal...efault.asp?L=3 you can get official data on finnish names here.

Funny thing is that it's somewhat usual informal nickname for Jesus (yes, Him) in Finland. Considering what McDavid occasionally gets called, I would look into trading for "Finnish Baby Jesus" Mikael Granlund to the other wing.

I don't have the balls to go to the trade forum with this one though, but I have good authority for that the fat one would balance the two skinny ones.

Max Jones and Sam Steel deserve 10/10 just because they're paired together.

There's a few notable exceptions but in general I would advice against drafting single syllable skaters, considering how many of them turn into career scrubs. For every Howe, Oates and Kane there's five Glass:es. Just look at Nick Schultz, Brad May, Brad Marsh and Mike Grier, it's not a coincidence that the bottom feeders among the 1000+ game players have single syllable names.

Interestingly the opposite is true for single syllable goalies. Price, Quick, Rask, Fuhr, Irbe.. it's hard to find many career backups with names like that.

Dubois? Fringe NHL player? Are you kidding me..

I guess I could kinda understand someone arguing he'll never be a first liner, but my god he's definitely going to carve out a successful NHL career.
