Game Anaylisis: Klein ends the scoring drought in the second period with a booming howitzer from the point. Carolina rallies back when LaRose scores from his faceoff circle after a fake pass to one of the n00bies. It has been an epic goalie showdown between Ward and Rinne until Legwand sends Hornqvsit a beautiful one time pass between the legs of Corvo for the goal. Cam Ward immediately turns around glaring down a prone Gleason behind the net. With tensions rising, Skinner gets a powerplay goal waved off because his stick wasn't low enough on a deflection. While throwing a tantrum, Jordan Staal gets injured in the process. Canes lose 3-1.
Post game comments:
When asked about the goal being waved off: "I thought the replacements refs were supposed to be gone yesterday".
When asked about Jordan Staal's injury: "Why do the Staal's always have to be the center of attention, I was a RFA too ya know?"
When asked about wearing a Radulov jersey: "You make a last ditch effort when you got nothing else to bring."
9/10, not bad. Too many regulars and not enough scrubs involved though, this is pre-season after all. Justin Peters with the start backed up by unexpected training camp tryout Dan Ellis would be my bet in net for us. Chris Mason for the Preds (which actually makes the odds of us getting shut out even more likely, being that he's a backup and all).
I know it's just the first game, but Semin really did look like a cancer out there. Floating around, not much effort involved, and when he did have the puck his offensive pressure wasn't enough to make up for an otherwise atrocious game. He better step it up, Jared Staal's look really good in camp and I think he's pressing hard for Semin's top line spot...
Not all that unexpected. The way Staal was looking at him all game when he was on the bench and then high fiving Dwyer when he got back from drawing the penalties made me think something clearly had to be up.
That was great when Weber hipchecked Tlusty into the crowd. He almost made me spill my beer. Not sure how Tlusty magically re-appeared on the rink though. That was odd.
On the flipside, I think we can all see why we shouldn't have been penciling Welsh in the 3rd Line Center spot. Can't wait to see Boychuk next game. I hear he's been working his tail off this off-season
