The first goal was awesome. He just grabbed the puck and threw a quick wrister on net. It took me a few views to see exactly what happened.
I love Gally's 2nd goal. Wins a puck battle, and then reaches for the puck and keeps it away from the forward, and then an unreal pass to Sarault, who returns the favour.
Notice how all of Galchenyuk's goals this year have come from hard wristers below the hash marks. It's great when someone as skilled as Gally is willing to go to those areas to score.
Its great to see his skill, but it is a little concerning he is not producing 5 on 5. I find he doesnt try hard enough to get open for passes at times. As long as he keeps playing a lot he will find his legs more and more. Once this happens, he will be able to move his feet a lot quicker, consequently improving 5 on 5.

It's really not concerning at all. Like you said he needs to get quicker, but last night wasn't exactly a good indication of he's been playing. The first period of yesterdays game was the worst I've seen him play this year, and he improved throughout the game. In previous games he didn't look that slow at all. I think he's struggling 5 on 5 because he's adjusting to various factors. His timing is off, but it's gotten much better, and without Yakupov teams are paying much more attention too him. He also tends to get a bit selfish with the puck and stick handles himself into a crowd or a corner. He also tends to get too selfless and tries fancy drop passes and cross-ice passes when his teammates aren't expecting it, so they bobble it. Or sometimes he should just simply shoot instead. Galchenyuk, despite improving, still has a ways to go.
While he did get all of his point on the power play, it's just awesome to see his presence on the ice during those PP's. Great vision, great fight, great strategy, and the skills to pull it all together. We don't really have a forward presence quite like him in the rest of our system, or the big club.
i'm not worried about him only getting points on the PP after all teams cant cover him like they do 5 on 5 . its like going from being covered in a new blanket ( 5on5) to being covered in a worn out hole filled one ( PP )So really once he gets his timing back, and his team mates and him mesh more . then he'll start getting more points 5 on 5 IMO
He has 9 points on 17 Sting goals, that's being in on 53% of team goals. Shows how much they lack depth, which is why he gets so much attention from the opposition.
Good for him, this might just be what he needed! I didn't see any games yet but has he been successful carrying the puck as a center? I know we all hate Gomez but when our team was doing good (09-10, 10-11), Gomez was actually one of the best at getting the puck out of the zone with possession and gaining offensive zone with possession. I think having a center who can carry the puck like that is essential for a successful team.
If you guys want a comparison, you should check out what Huberdeau is doing. I feel both are in a similar position; stuck on terribad teams, devoid of hope for a run at the memorial cup, will get traded after the WJC and the only huge star left on respective teams.

Huberdeau has 12 points in 7 games btw.
I do not think this is a fair comparison as Huberdeau is 1 year older and was going to start with Florida. Plus, Huberdeau played in 2 WJC and 2 MEM CUP. They are clearly not at the same stage career-wise...

Not to mention the Q is an easier league to score in

1 WJC. Doesn't change a lot, but what I'm angling is Huberdeau and Galchenyuk are stuck on those teams in terms of depth. The offense goes through them, whether or not the Q is a higher scoring league or one has more experience in the memorial cup.
If they end up having similar offensive output, then we'll know just how good we have it with Galchenyuk.

Well it's an incredibly FAIR comparison...in TOTAL ADVANTAGE to Gally and I'm a BIG Huberdeau fan. Like you said, Huberdeau has a lot more experience than Gally has and isn't at the level of what Grigorenko is showing.....Why is that? Teams....As simple as that. Also add the fact that Gally has something like 1 year to recuperate from.....and again, geez I have no idea why people are panicking....Makes no sense to me. He's clearly the best pure talent we've got in the system since Price.
Again, why are people talking about a Grigo vs Gally comparison. Based on points? Geez, why shouldn't we take Philip Danault instead? He has way more goals than Grigo, same number of points, and is absolutely not playing in a powerhouse. We don't talk about Danault 'cause he was not suppose to be amongst top 5? Reality check....so wasn't Grigorenko anymore. FROM EVERY EXPERT out there. And again, this is coming from a guy who did, does and will think Grigo has a great NHL future ahead of him and is a STEAL for Buffalo. Plenty of reasons to drop from top 5, no reasons whatsoever to drop from top 8-10.

2 years really, one cause he was injured an an other because he's younger. Anyway, I'd much rather have Gally he has more tools in his bag than just scoring. Hubs is the epitome of a one dimensional center to me, or rather the impression I have of him as I haven't seen him play all that much and whenever I did I came away super unimpressed.
