This is what happens in negotiations when you're grandstanding too much and letting the big issue fester. Even the smaller things, that should be much easier to solve, are poisoned by the egos in the room. This is going to continue to spiral downward without a mediator.

Hello out there, we're on the air, there's no hockey night tonight. The tension grows and the lockout blows and the season's on the ice. The league it sucks, and the players suck, and the fans all go insane. Someone roars "quick, before we lose a whole season again!" Oh, the good old hockey game locked the players out again
And the fans they live in pain with no good old hockey game

Told it is unlikely the players present an offer until #NHL shows flexibility and willingness to compromise.

Without the meat-and-potatoes issues on the agenda, the two sides discussed issues such as performance-enhancing drug testing and miscellaneous CBA legal issues.

Fehr indicated that such ancillary issues could be worked out easily should the main stumbling blocks-- namely the division of revenue -- be resolved.

"If we had everything else settled, we could go back and solve the remaining issues in six hours," he said.

..... , are they kidding. you get somehwhere by presenting SOMETHING. The ball is in the PA's court, they can't just not do anything and wait for the NHL to "want to compromise", under what grounds?? They have no leverage. How about they present their proposal, the NHL takes a look at it, and then they talk. ****ing sick of this.

They obviously have no juristiction, but i wish it were possible for the IIHF to step in and mediate this fiasco.

I also feel the NHL needs to adopt some IIHF rules. Particularly the rules that are in place to protect goaltenders.

The deadline is Thanksgiving, very doubtful they reach an agreement on any core issues before then. This season is not happening.

The NHL protects goaltenders enough. They even protect them when they are outside their crease (ie. behind the net), which is ridiculous.

One IIHF rule I want off the top of my head is the points system.

Goaltenders are not protected enough.

Their crease was shrunk, players have no respect for them by plowing over them.

I like the IIHF rule regarding pucks hitting goaltenders in the mask. A puck off the mask and the play is whistled dead, giving the goaltender time to recouprate.

The NHL also needs to mandate visors. They talk about player safety and refuse to make the necessary changes.

For the most part, the game on the ice is great. I'm concerned about player safety and longevity. Record number of head injuries. They need to address these issues. If they are losing time, dont let it only be about money.

How is the deadline Thanksgiving? I don't see any way they call off the season any earlier than January 1st.

Because the league said it would only be willing to cancel two more blocks of 14 (US Thanksgiving) an then it would cancel the entire season.

Until we see otherwise, that threat needs to be taken seriously and not as a bluff. And thats how everyone involved should act.

Yeah, I take everything I hear from the league and the PA at face value...

The season was cancelled in February last time...

They need better helmets to help with the concussion problems, not visors.

So goaltenders, like Lundqvist, if he wanted, if he felt there was a great scoring chance against him, he could decide to take it off the mask deliberately, just to get a blown whistle, instead of freezing the puck?

The play is whistled dead only if the goalie gets hit in the mask by the puck, not if he takes the mask off.

That should probably be delay of game.

That's what the NHL wants the PA to think so they will cave. You think it would go over well with a lot of the owners to have the season completely canned before December even hits?

I think next week we'll be hearing about actual progress in the HRR discussions. The PA will make another offer.

Visors absolutely would reduce the amount of head injuries. Your face isn't part of your head? Impact to your face doesn't effect your brain?

Visors help reduce shock and impact to your head. They reduce facial and eye injuries.

Impact to the front of the head causes just as much brain trauma as a hit to the side and back.

He does it constantly.

And thats not the point.

A hard shot to the mask can disorient and make a goaltender vulnerable.

So goaltenders, like Lundqvist, if he took a 90 mph shot off the mask and was disoriented, he would get the whistle he deserves so he can collect himelf.

Thats how IIHF rules work. It doesn't negatively affecting international tournaments.

Two things will make me happy with this whole situation.

One of them is a new CBA, obviously.

The other one, I will not say as I have gotten in trouble for saying it in the past.

Lundqvist gets hit in the mask not to get a blown whistle...

And if it only gets blown if the goalie is disoriented, how can you tell if he's disoriented or not? Wouldn't they just be able to fake it?
