im reminded of modanos rookie year w the northstars. he had a black n blue eye every 2 weeks. granlund needs to play smarter so hes not laying flat on the ice so much. he'll learn. im not worried about granlund , i am worried about secondary scoring & goaltending. cheers!

You can make the argument that these two items are not mutually exclusive, but tied together.

imo cullen, pmb, seto, brodz & big buck need to start scoring, granlund's production will follow. not fair to ask a rookie to lead the pack.

Well obviously he can´t lead the pack yet even if he wanted. It might take him the whole season (since it´s short) to even adjust to the game, wouldn´t be too worried about him this season yet.

That all might be true....but it's still troubling to see that Yeo has had to bench him in the 3rd period two games in a row.

Maybe it is easier to bench the young guy than others that don't produce.

Or Yeo has just as high expectations on Mikke as we do!

On the other hand, those guys can't just create offense out of a void. Granlund needs to step up his efforts. The biggest issue is that Granlund's problem is correctable but he's not fixing it. One game, two games? Sure. But 4-5 games? We don't need bad habits to set in and that's what is going to happen.

Granlund needs to be a water bug on the ice. Constantly moving. If he isn't, he's not going to be effective at all. He can't get away with what he got away with in Finland or even in the AHL.

I think expectations were a little too high. I don't know why we had to roll 2 scoring lines and 2 checking lines. Three scoring and one checking could have been better with Cullen and Granlund being on the third line.

Parise - Koivu - Heatley
Bouchard - Brodziak - Setoguchi
Granlund - Cullen - Clutterbuck

Those should have been the lines coming into the season.

For those who think Granlund should've transferred already, I think you are overestimating him. I'd say that at AHL lvl Granlund is at most a point per game player, so he could or could not be ready for the NHL - but top2 C? No chance in hell. Great points in SM or AHL usually don't carry over to the NHL, for some it does but the reality is that Granlund still has a long way to go to become the player most of us want to see.

Granlund is less than 180cm, doesn't have exceptional speed and is not that strong. As I've said in the Wild forum Granlund thread, a lot of people are overestimating his chances to be a force in the NHL. I hope I'm wrong though.
I hate to say I told you so, but...

Oh well, lots of time left in the season.

He is going to be a force in the NHL. Its just going to take longer than we all expected..look at Zibanjed in Ottawa..or Turris in Phoenix. Koivu in Minnesota. So many examples of players that took some time to develop or are still developing. Granlund will be fine we just thought he would be better right away.

Granlund will get there, barring a serious injury, knock on wood.

Oh no, he hasn't scored 10 goals in the first 6 games, he's a bust

He's young and still developing. No, he might not live up to expecations this year, or maybe even next. But, he will fill out, he will gain strength, and he will figure out the differences in the leagues, then he will succeed.

For a kid who was dominant in the SM-Liiga and the AHL, to be so weak in the NHL is a little strange. Need more games, need more info. It's just a strange situation.

Yeah and think of those missed first round draft picks from 2004 to 2009. Oh what we could have had.

There's a website called "First Round Bust" that pretty much took the idea and ran with it.

You should check it out, I heard it's pretty decent.

He'll learn, not worried one bit, but if he needs to go to the minors if his struggles right now continue that is not a bad thing. He'll get there, we just have to be patient.

After next season I think he will be what we are hoping from him. So that means 2014-2015 is the time he should be good for about 50-70pts.

That defensive play on chicago player's stick preventing goal in the end of the OT was very nice.

Granlund seemed to be able to find space in the offensive zone for himself tonight...he was very good defensively too...his line seemed to have a lot of jump tonight.
