Since the junior season has started, and preliminary draft rankings are out let's discuss some early targets and players to watch for in the coming draft.
Personally, some players that I would key on include Jonathan Drouin, Tyler Hill, JT Compher, and Anthony Duclair. It appears that the Q has a lot of interesting prospects in the first round.
Thoughts? Who are you keeping tabs on this year?

I told ya so. I was right all along!
I'm a fan of Alex Forsberg, even though he'll probably be out of our reach. Seems to have fallen (with no good reason) on most lists for now but I think he'll be back in Top 30 in a couple of months and will continue rising.

I completely forgot about him. He was definitely someone that I would have thought would be a top 10 player for this draft when I was looking ahead last season. Hopefully his low stock right now means he ends up being the Jordan Eberle of the draft?

Forsberg was the 1st overall pick in the 2010 WHL Bantam draft, but he has so far failed to live up to his hype and hasn't done much for the Cougars. Although he is going to be playing 1st line minutes this season with Colin Jacobs who has been on a tear so far this year. The funny thing is, Edmonton picked Curtis Lazar right after Forsberg and Lazar is projected to go Top 10 in next year's draft and I believe he will be Top 5 by the end of the season.
I really want us to find a legit number 1, potentially franchise defenseman. The best way to do it is through the draft, if there's a lottery we might get a shot at Jones, Ristolainen, or Pulock. We've never really had a franchise defenseman before.
How does the draft order work? I don't quite remember how they did it. Is it a lottery based on set fractions from the last season played? Ie. Carolina was 10th so they get a 1/47 chance at 1st overall or something? Clarify anyone?

Over the past 3 years, every time you miss the playoffs you get a ball in a lottery. You also lose a ball for every 1st overall pick(with a minimun of one, which Edmonton would have.)
So we'd have 1 ball, while the Leafs would have 3 balls, etc.
The Q really struggled against the Russians in the Subway Super Series last year (i watched the games). Overall, their record is nowhere near as good as the OHL (who have never lost) and the WHL.
They have big names, but if you look at each team's history in drafting, the Q has really lacked depth players and has the least amount of players in the NHL out of the CHL. The defense in the Q is also very shaky.

Josh Morrissey and Eric Roy are also very good defensemen coming out of the WHL who could drop.
