Do we really have a shot at Lazar? I'd think he'd be gone by the time we get to our pick. He's such a huge Canucks fan it would be great to draft him. Looks very good every time I've seen him play.

My dream I'd to get some more seconds. I'd take 1 early 2nd.
Late 1st: Lazar
early 2nd: Petan
Late 2nd: Dano

Gillis might disapprove of the size or lack there off.

Had Lazar in the 20s when he was slated to go top 10 (top 5 lol). I really couldn't care less for Lazar just a few weeks ago...

That is until I saw how big of a Canucks fan he is.

WANT.

Those Oilers keep taking the Canucks fans and BC kids. Hell, a lot of teams are taking the BC kids late in the draft and are getting rewarded for it.

Realistically, I am looking at Erne in the 20s. It's more realistic in the light of possible "attitude problems" and conflicts with the team. Depends on how much weight you put into that but I think he has a good character. Would be stoked to get him, and just goes to show how deep this draft is.

Just got to hope one of Dickinson, Erne, Mantha or Horvat drop at the draft and the Canucks pick one. Lazar and Nurse seem like outside shots at best. They will be long gone.

If Dickinson drops to the Canucks spot I will be elated to have them take him. That's who I want in this draft.

Based on past drafts, I don't think anyone's been able to call the Canucks 1st round pick. Hodgson, Schroeder, Jensen and Gaunce all fell past where they were expected to go and the Canucks were opportunistic. Just have to hope for the same.

I do too. I'd probably take him at around 25-30th, if there aren't any obvious fallers.

Quick blurb from a media prospect scout on Lazar.

@coreypronman
Great skater, shot, defense, intangibles. Solid skill. Low 1st/high 2nd

I've got a plan, let's bombard him via twitter as Canucks fans and advise him to tank the rest of the season, to keep from rising. It's ok, MG will be in on it, he's hip to the twitter.

I'd love to draft Lazar, but he isn't someone I'd trade up in the draft to get.

We always seem to go BPA in the first round, but make very 'project-like' picks from round 2-7. It's like once a player falls into the Canucks arms in the first round lower than he was projected, they feel like they've gotten the right value and just swing for the fences with the remaining picks.

I'm very pleased with how Hodgson and Schroeder have turned out, and how Jensen and Gaunce are progressing. But it also doesn't hurt to look at more intriguing prospects in the later rounds.

They obviously know more than we do, but there are some not so shrewd selections in the later rounds in the previous years, which I suppose is to be expected because not many gems come in later rounds. Corrado however was a diamond in the rough.

Watching that makes me really want Lazar. I especially like the way he interacts with his teammates.

I really don't know a thing about this kid but I say we tank to get him just so we can say "that shot was a real Lazar beam".
Moar Lazars

Glad to see a lot more people hopping on the Lazar bandwagon.

I just don't see any way he falls to the bottom of the 1st.

We would definitely need a top 15 pick to even get a sniff. Goalie trade?

I don't know why I just see lazar getting picked by Dallas.

He too, he's piling up the points on a crap team.

He has size speed and all round offensive ability, would love to get him playing with Jensen, I think he could be a steal.

I'd say Dickinson and Horvat are the only ones who will likely be around late 1st.

Dickinson to me has all the tools, I think he's going to tear the OHL apart next season.

He's been my #1 realistic target too.

I'd like to see all forwards taken this year.

Another guy who is skyrocketing lately is Jimmy Lodge from Saginaw. Tall and lean, but is starting to really establish himself as a go to player.

I trust the OHL scouts more than any of our others.

I'm gaining more appreciation for the OHL scouts too, but then I think the Canucks should be going there anyways for their top picks. Forwards from the OHL, Dmen from the WHL, and a couple wildcards from the QMJHL. COL, for instance, seems to like doing exactly this.

How does Dickinson fall past 20? It would be hard to imagine. Still, I've seen a lot of mocks with him going later and sometimes dropping to the 2nd. Should be interesting.

After watching him for a bit, I'm not as high on Carrier as I was. There's just something about his game that lacks creativity, and therefore upside. I'd take a shot at him in the 2nd round, but not in the 1st.

Haven't heard too much about Lodge, will check out games with him.

Based on history, what I do know is check the TSN final draft rankings after the team order is set. It's turned out that the guys that usually fall off that list get picked up by the Canucks. In 2009, Schroeder fell. In 2011, the choice was between Saad and Jensen, as both fell well past where they were expected to go. In 2012, the obvious BPA was again Gaunce. Look to their final ranking as a judge as to who the Canucks might pick.

And just as something of interest to me, I'm going to watch again if the Canucks stick to the BPA in the 2nd round or go off the board. I've heard Gilman admit that they go BPA in the 2nd round too, but I don't see it. I hope this is a correction they make in their scouting practices. Something like this only gets helped along if they keep their picks too, that way they don't have to reach as much when their turn comes around...
