I agree I would rather go after Edmonton's 1st then any of there players which we would have to overpay for

There's no way they move Hall, Eberle, or RNH, but Yakupov is a very nice option for any combo above, including if they want two of those d-men or forwards. I'd even add something else if it means we can switch our 1st round picks too.

So the deal would be to Edmonton: Oleksiak, Guance, R. Smith, Dallas' 1st and Boston's 1st to Dallas: Yakupov, Edmonton's 1st, Edmonton's 3rd.

Who says no?
When did we get Boston's 1st round pick?

We probably won't have that boston first or second if we move up but we don't need anymore depth we already have 1 of the deepest pools in the NHL. I'm all for moving up in the draft and who knows who will be available when cap comes down.

Were not set at wing but we have plenty of wingers already and enough that have potential to play top 6 and potentially first line in Guptill, Ritchie, Chiasson and the one I think could be the best of the bunch Stransky. Only position i'm worried about is 1C.

It's ok to have more than 4 good wingers. Also, you're a more bold person than I am projecting out all of those guys to turn out. I have hopes for them too but I'm not about to count on an unknown.

There are about a dozen teams all hoping that there is going to be even one cap casualty, but putting your hopes on getting somebody cheap is going to end in tears, especially since the cap will start going back up after next season.

Those were my picks of players with the highest chance of becoming top 6 NHL players. Isn't the entire process of developing and drafting taking a shot into the unknown especially when there 18 year old kids getting drafted. Only time will tell who makes it or not but I feel this team has a very bright future ahead of itself, and this season only strengthens that opinion for me with the success of the AHL club and young players on NHL roster.

To be honest I really get nervous around the idea of trading our first, up or down. Too much to give to trade up and I dont think trading down in this draft will be good (even if we end up 10-14). I like our prospect pool, I like the guys projected at 10-14. We are moving the young guys in and to be honest I kinda dont want to move any of our assets because they all feel, to some extent, like a season or two away from being legit NHL'ers. Am I being gutless?

Probably belongs in a post-season player evaluation where you put together a lineup of who deserves a roster spot next season.

Sets up for an opportunity to trade up a few more spots. Possibly enough to get Barkov.

By my count 9th. Buffalo could win it's last game while we lose, and we'd still be ahead due to ROW.

Gotta root for NJ, PHX, and PHI in their last games.

Gonna guess we end up picking 10th. Try to move up but no one takes it.

1st - Nathan MacKinnon
2nd - Seth Jones
3rd - Aleksandr Barkov
4th - Jonathan Drouin
5th - Sean Monahan
6th - Elias Lindholm
7th - Darnell Nurse
8th - Valeri Nichushkin
9th - Hunter Shinkaruk
10th - Rasmus Ristolainen

So at 10th (even at 11th), we'll be adding the best prospect we've had since Benn pretty easily IMO. Probably even further back if someone falls.

I'm okay with this.

Precisely, I really dont want to move our pick up. It will cost too much do so and there enough great talent even in the top 15 to have me really happy. And who knows maybe we will see a Fowler like drop or Monahan

In our range, Id be fine with Monahan (optimistic), Lindholm, Nurse, Nichushkin, Shinkaruk, RR, Horvat, Pulock

For the ninth pick the Stars need to lose in regulation and
Coyotes, Flyers and Devils all pick up one point. Flyers have 21 ROWs vs the Stars 20.

For the ninth pick if the Stars lost in overtime
Coyotes, Flyers, Devils need to win their games.

Games left are
Colorado at Phoenix, Phoenix at Anaheim
Devils at Rangers
Flyers at Senators.

Monahan might very well take a big tumble. Don't count on it, but if anyone of the big 6 is gonna fall, it'll be him.

So barring a trade Dallas will either draft 1st, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, or 13th

Yup, im still really excited haha. While I would love a blue chip, I like the idea of just adding more supreme depth to our prospect pool. It seems we have been drafting better in the first as of late, but we have drafted really well with out later picks, so im not too worried.

Correct. Although Most likely 9th-12th. The only way they get 13th or 1st is if they win the lottery or they finish 12th and whoever finishes 13th or 14th wins the lottery.

9th is still possible which makes me happy. Someone could tumble or from 9th it's not as hard to move up to 6th or 7th. Preciate it Jersey, Philly, and Phx. Need you guys to win one last game.

MacKinnon, Jones, and Drouin I think are strong bets to make the NHL. Nichushkin is NHL ready but he's got a KHL contract to play out or be bought out. Depending on the team Monahan might be given a chance same with Barkov, assuming he's healthy and taken care of his Finnish military commitment.

Is there room for a guy like Nichushkin to go to the AHL next year? I think with guys like that it's good not to rush them, but if you give them a direct chance to make your NHL team they might be ok with sticking around a bit longer. Not that any of it matters, we never pick the Russian. This year we might legitimately regret that. I'm completely open to a risky 1st round pick this year.

i dont even know why people even mention Nicushkin. There is very little chance the Stars would draft him.
