In all likelihood, Dallas picks 10th, There is a very, very small chance they pick 1st or 11th.

We'll know that answer on 7 PM this Monday.

Tune in to TSN or NBCN.

Think he means they could pick 11th if a team behind us wins the lottery.

Trade Eriksson to Nashville for #4, draft Barkov and Ristolainen at 4 and 10, sign all the Finns in UFA. (VF, Lydman, Miettinen)

Who cares? In 3 (end of 15-16) years Eriksson is a UFA and by then we'll be ready to compete. It sucks but if it means we get a top 5 pick which is both BPA and need, then whatever? It's part of this upcoming culture change in the organization.

I'm not a huge fan of trading Eriksson but ******* let's dream of a Finnparade.

Actually I'd do him for McKinnon or Nichushkin. Both are going to be elite, but Nichushkin is just ****ing massive.

I'd be willing to move Loui in the right deal but quite frankly this team has to hit the cap floor somehow and you can't move Loui but retain Robidas and Daley (at least you shouldn't) so there's a ton of money going out the door.

If Loui is the price for either of those two players Cin count me in but I doubt anyone ahead of us would trade their pick for him except Nashville and I think you could get more than that pick for Loui.

Cory Pronman and Bob McKenzie had an interesting discussion on Nichushkin last night via Twitter. I thought I had heard he was having a good U-18, but apparently that is not the case.

They said some teams are still talking about him as a Top 5 talent, but the Russian factor and his play at this tournament could cause him to fall.

McKenzie hinted he was a guy that could still go Top 10 but probably later.

This makes me happy. Don't think he'd drop to the back of the 1st round, assuming Dallas gets Boston's first but outside of the top ten it should be easier and cheaper to move back up. My dream of a center and Valeri Nichushkin is alive.

I like how your dream always involves Boston's 1st round pick.

I don't know why people would suddenly think that Nichushkin is a serious possibility. Nill isn't going to come in here and wipe out the scouts' draft boards or immediately hire additional Russian scouts. In all likelihood Les Jackson will be retained and continue to shape the way the org. drafts.

Furthermore... Detroit doesn't draft Russians either in modern times. They draft Swedes and Czechs, just like us.

Who are you guys hoping for? D, F, or BPA? Anybody in particular you guys like a lot?

Phoenix is a couple of picks back and our board seems to like Lazar a lot.

With the current pick we have I'm hoping Monahan and Nichushkin slide down. If both of them are gone then Mantha.

Center would be our main priority. I don't think we would be taking Lazar tbh

Here is a list of Detroit's 35 draft picks since 2008:

Canada15
Sweden6
USA5
Czech Rep.4
Slovakia3
Finland1
Russia1

OHL7
QMJHL6
Sweden*6
WHL5
USHL3
USHS/Prep#3
Finnish SM-Liiga1
KHL1
NCAA1
OJHL1
Slovak Extraliga1
*3 from U20, 1 from U10, and 1 from Elitserien
#1 from MIN, 1 from CT, 1 from Prep

As you can see, they have a very impressive spread of countries and leagues. They also choose regularly from all 3 CHL leagues rather than a big focus on 1. They really show no bias when drafting, and I think it's fair to say Hull Fan is correct they aren't afraid of Russians it's just Russians are down overall for being drafted.

Oh yeah ... and few teams actually scout U18 Sweden, but Dallas and Detroit both do. Dallas' recent U18 picks are John Klingberg and Emil Molin.

7 of those picks are from leagues that feed the NCAA, and they had the one pick already in the NCAA for 8 total college picks.

I like Dallas' better since 2009, but in reality you should get at least 1 good guy out of each draft, and hope for more. They mostly accomplished that.

I think they did an excellent job in 2010 though.

Yeah I dont mean to really knock it, just that it looks ok versus dallas' which looks really good over that time.

Agreed. Here's hoping they take the best of both worlds. I could see Nill backing off from the amateur scouting/evaluation aspect of the job and leaving it to Les Jackson. It's not like he'll have time to do exactly what he did in Detroit anymore. After this draft I imagine he'll have less time to scout and talk to scouts, and knowledge of the actual prospects as he focuses more on day to day operations.
