Yeah, like I've stated, my hope is Jackson has the same position. I'm not so sure though that Nill will totally give up final say on the draft table though, and I'm OK with that. Nill has been running the table for several years, and Jackson has only been in that role for two drafts.

Nieuwendyk almost never scouted for drafts per Heika, but I think we'll see Nill on the road more often .. obviously just not as much. I think he'll be more hands on for sure.

The thing that excites me is the union of the two philosophies. I really do think Jackson and Nill can form a great drafting team. I hope Nill feels that way though and retains him.

After this draft I imagine he'll have less time to scout and talk to scouts, and knowledge of the actual prospects as he focuses more on day to day operations.
That is what I am hoping for as well. Losing Les Jackson would strike me as a step backwards even with improving the GM position.

Damn, that's about as bad as it could possibly go. I'd reach for Mantha.

I think their recent drafts are pretty good actually. They've got a pretty deep prospect pool.

That's the nightmare scenario for me. I'd consider moving back to 15-17 and taking Wennberg.

Just take who you want at that point.

Gauthier, Ristolainen, or Wennberg.

Yessh yeah, this is a nightmare. Who else could potentially fall into the top 10? Zykov? Theodore? Gauthier? Maybe someone will reach. Ristolainen will still be available at least; we could use a potential #1 right handed shot d-man. Is he more of a defensive d-man or does he have any offensive upside?

I hate to break it to you guys, but I got that list by lurking team boards. If I did a board by board mock draft via a poll, I think this is how the voting would likely turn out.

Let's do an informal poll. Post who you'd take there.

Easy, Ristolainen. To those saying this is a nightmare scenario, I dont think it is. Sure, we could use a top notch center prospect. but we could also use a right handed top pairing d-man prospect almost as much.

If that scenario unfolded how difficult do you think it would be to move back to 15 or so for Wennberg or Domi?

Ristolianen or Pulock are good players but I'd rather move back than take either at 10.

Never move back. Never.

Ristolainen there easily. You people wanting a forward are crazy. It's BPA every time - you worry about the positions once those prospects are developed and you're competing. The draft is not a place to fill in your weaknesses - you do that in FA or through trades.

And let's all remember how (in)accurate the HF ideas about the draft are. What you're seeing is the consensus all over the boards. So outside of the top 4 or 5, the draft will probably look nothing like that at all.

I'd much rather go BPA than add another 2nd round pick.

Say boston does go to the ECF, does anyone think trading Bos 27-30 and a high second for like 15th-20th pick is possible?

If we could get Ristolainen and Domi out of the first, I would love it!

If that pick is coming from one of the teams with multiple firsts, yes.

Two things. 1) I don't like reaching for a player, especially if you've got five or six guys basically rated the same.

2) by moving back and picking up another 2nd round pick it makes it that much easier to get back into the late 1st or early 2nd on a guy who falls.

Trading back is a great decision if the options you like were just taken, and the next players on your board will be available later in the round, or you know your player will be available a few picks later.

If the draft plays out that way, I'd rather see them just take the best available and that could likely be the Big Finn defender.

I do see some logic in trading back. If you really like 3 or 5 guys right there, an extra 2nd or 3rd is valuable. Regardless ... the draft isn't an exact science. You can't say trading back is always bad or always good. Just trust the scouts in that position, and like I've already said, you'll never probably have as much knowledge about the players in this draft at Dallas' draft table again. He won't have their notes in front of him, but it's impossible for Nill to forget the many conversations he's already had with Detroit scouts preparing for this draft. Dallas stacked the deck at a perfect time.

Yeah in that scenario I really only like 2 or 3 guys, Ristolainan and Pulock and maybe Wennberg. It seems like they are definitely a little more valuable than guys like Mantha, Gauthier and Lazar who theyd be in the range of after trading down.

Boston was down 0-2. The score in the last seconds of the 2nd, and the first seconds of the 3rd.

Game tied baby. They have to win in regulation to finish 2nd overall, and they REALLY need to finish 2nd overall to have a legitimate shot at the ECF.

I think I saw they have only won 2 of their last 9 game.

I don't think the Isles will be push overs in the first round or anything, but they can't go into the 2nd round potentially playing Pittsburgh or Montreal should they get out of the first. They need to avoid those teams if possible.

I'm hoping their path to the ECF is the Islanders and the Capitals. It's nowhere close to a given they can beat those teams, but that's for sure the easiest path they could face.

That didn't quite go as we'll as hoped. Not a good feeling watching the bruins limp into the playoffs.
