DBD's inferiority complex with the media right now is highly entertaining.

The interesting thing from McKenzie's Top 10 was him saying Hunter Shinkaruk has elite offensive skill.

Well .... he's typically listed as a tweener, but maybe Dallas/Nill would see him as a center.

Apparently Darnell Nurse's uncle is Donovan McNabb.

This has been known for quite some time, actually. Kid's a beast all around and has some great athletic family ties.

Anyways, my new top 14:

1st (Colorado) - Seth Jones, D
2nd (Florida) - Nathan MacKinnon, C
3rd (Tampa Bay) - Jonathan Drouin, W
4th (Nashville) - Aleksandr Barkov, C
5th (Carolina) - Valeri Nichushkin, W
6th (Calgary) - Elias Lindholm, C
7th (Edmonton) - Darnell Nurse, D
8th (Buffalo) - Sean Monahan, C
9th (New Jersey) - Hunter Shinkaruk, W
10th (Dallas) - Rasmus Ristolainen, D
11th (Philadelphia) - Ryan Pulock, D
12th (Phoenix) - Bo Horvat, C
13th (Winnipeg) - Anthony Mantha, W
14th (Columbus) - Adam Erne, W

Doubt it'll look anything like that, but who knows.

My early heart is set on Lindholm or Monahan, but I know we will have to trade up to do it.

I doubt the flames will be trading down, as they have 3 1st rounders they will use their top pick to get the premium BPA..i think the best two oppurtunites would be Carolina at 5 or Buffalo at 8.

Assuming the Bruins get to the ECF and we get pick 27 id love for dallas to trade with Carolina 10+27 to get pick 5. I wonder if the canes would be interested after giving up a 1st last year.

Nichuskin or lindholm at 5

if we can only move up to 8 then Monahan they most likely BPA

Tampa might consider it as well, with how badly they need defense. Daley + 10th might get it done, but I wouldn't count on it at all.

That caught my attention as well. You would think elite level offensive skill would get him ranked higher than 10th. Wonder what gaps he has in his game.

That's a terrible result for us that Colorado won. Wow. The hits just keep on coming.

If Shinkaruk's there, I don't see how we don't take him, especially if he can play center (first I'm hearing of this, though). He does have amazing offensive ability (not sure I'd say it's elite), and then of course there's the WHL factor as well.

He's switched from the wing this season I think.

The biggest knock on him is that without the puck he isn't very strong and that's a knock a lot of scouts have made. Can't deny his elite offensive skill (see Pat Kane & Sam Gagner in junior) but I could see him outside the top 10 or 15 to be honest.

If we can get inside the top 6, I'll be happy. Anyone of those forwards (Barkov, MacK, Drouin, Nicushkin, Monahan) can play in the NHL next year and would be the blue chipper that we so desperately need.

Nichushkin will be available at 10 because of his KHL contract.

Long-time Flyers fan (Pennsylvania born and raised), but my wife and I are relocating to Austin this summer, so I've picked up an amatuer's interest in the Stars.

I've been working up a mock draft for the first 11 picks, and so far, it seems like there's a pretty solid consensus about the first six picks.

Quote:
1. COL - S. Jones
2. FLA - N. Mackinnon
3. TBL - J. Drouin
4. NSH - A. Barkov
5. CAR - S. Monahan
6. CGY - E. Lindholm
...at this point, things get a little murkier. But here's my best guess, assuming everyone keeps their picks....
7. EDM - D. Nurse
8. BUF - V. Nichushkin
9. NJD - H. Shinkaruk
Reading through this thread, it seems like there's a great deal of interest in Shinkaruk, but I just don't see the Devils, desperate for offensive talent and looking at a forfeited 1st next year, passing him up for a defenseman.

For the sake of argument, say the first nine goes this way. Any thoughts on the Stars' selection? Ristolainen or Zadorov would seem to be the best available defensemen. The forwards (Domi, Zykov, Mantha, etc.) are all a bit more of a reach at this point.

Most Flyers fans want a defenseman--though our board is more or less split between Ristolainen and Zadorov after Nurse, with a few who prefer Pulock.

Thats who I'm hoping for. Seems like a good fit.

Size, defensive game are the two big ones I presume? Haven't seen him much to even make a solid comment that is just a guess.

If you look at his numbers and see some of his goals he certainly does have elite offensive skill.

If that is the unfortunate draft order (We'd be screwed) and we had to take someone else, it'd probably be Ristolainen because he is a righty and we need right handed defensemen in out farm. Really hoping Nicushkin/Monahan/Shinkaruk fall to us though.

What about Freddy Gauthier? Big skilled center. Two-way game. A couple mocks have us taking him. Could be a little bit of a stretch at 10 - or maybe not. Could possibly snag someone else at 10 then try to trade up to mid round or so if he's still there. Hopefully that Boston pick works out, it could be used for something like that.

Lots of good players out of the top 5. Not sure I'd trade up unless there was someone up there we absolutely had to have. I think unless you're drafting top 3-4, your odds of getting a real good player are about the same in that 5-12 or so range.

If we could manage say Shinkaruk and Gauthier in the 1st round I'd be pretty darn happy.

I do feel like 10 is a bit early for Gauthier. At that point I think there should be higher ceiling offensive players available. I was also thinking if Boston does manage to make the conference finals using that pick and whatever else to trade up into the late teens to grab Gauthier would be a great move.

Perfect scenario to me.

I wouldn't even be opposed to taking him 10th. To me, once you're drafting there there's a handful of guys with zero to not much difference and it's really a crap shoot. Just depends on your own scouting and what/who you feel you need. I mean obviously you don't snag the 40th ranked guy at #10 (unless you can predict the future), but if he's even in the top 20 somewhere I think it's a reach I'd be willing to do.

Looks like we know which third round pick is ours, Edmontons according to the Dallas website.

1st (DAL) - 10th overall
2nd (BOS)* + 2nd (VAN) + 2nd (DAL)
3rd (EDM)
4th (DAL)
5th (DAL) + 5th (PIT)
6th (DAL)
7th (LAK)
